Some F#%@@ broke into my neighbours garage last night. He has 2 bikes parked there, a scooter, a moped and some bicycles, and I park my bike there. His son came back on his scooter late last night and found the garagedoor wide open, the light on and all bicycles thrown out, the moped thrown out and BOTH HIS motorcycles OUTSIDE ready to be taken away (he always leaves his keys in there). My bike wasn't moved, but I checked the wires under the headlights and they cut some cable straps. They didn't cut the wires themselves though. Since I don't leave my keys in there and always secure my bike, it probably was too much trouble for them trying to take it. Today I put an extra lock on there, and will see if I can secure it to something fixed in the floor or wall. We figured the burglars heard his scooter and took off. The garage is right behind a building so you can get to it 2 ways. He came one way and they fled the other way. My neighbour already changed the locks on the garage door, and will put another one on there tomorrow or this weekend. |

They were probably hiding nearby waiting to see if he was just someone passing by or a neighbor or the property owner. I indirectly caught some thieves once by pretending to be heading elsewhere. Your thieves may be locals, drop a little bait and do some fishing. Glad you had no major loss in any case. |

I would stick my bike somewhere else for a while, the thieves know what is in the garage now and may come better prepared next time. |

Geez Ingmar; that must have some impact on you. One of the advantages having a Buell: Thieves don`t like our bikes, being too exotic. One lock with a chain and one with a wired steel cable will be better than two chains: They have to use two different tools then. You can use a wireless baby phone in that garage for a couple of weeks: You can get some night rest after being waked up by a bad dream about thieves, stealing your bike. Hans |

Do they make a miniature GPS transmitter you could stash somewhere unobtrusive on your bike to help locate it if stolen? Wouldn't that be the cat's meow? Rob |

Hans, Love the baby monitor idea! I know plenty of people who have them leftover when their kids grow up. Ingemar, a baby monitor and a shotgun ought to work. SteveH |

"Oh, and don't forget my favorite, fishing line from the bike to a metal garbage can lid." More like fishing line hooked to a 12 gauge double loaded with rock salt! |

Ingemar...Bummer. Sounds like someone was doing some last minute Christmas shopping. Glad to hear you were spared the agony. Alarms are cool but not effective. Trust me, I manufactured and sold them for a number of years. They are just like locks and designed to keep honest people honest. My best recommendation is hollowing out a hole in your seat, installing a .410 shotgun shell and welding a BB to the frame or whatever directly below the primer. Just don't forget to warn all that have access to the bike (in writing) and to remove the shell before you hop on the saddle. Learned that trick from the Outlaws back in the 70's. Sort of leads credence to the saying "Rippin' someone a new one." FYI, if anyone ever sees me or my bike out and about, I strongly suggest you ask before you hop on the saddle. To far back and it will miss your 'roids and do a number on your reproductive organs. |

The baby monitor is neat, but the garage is too far away. And unless I like doin' time I can't shoot or even hurt a thief. I must order him to stay where he is and ask him to wait for the police. |

One of the advantages having a Buell: Thieves don`t like our bikes, being too exotic. That's what I thought about my '73 Moto Guzzi Sport. It was stolen, along with two other bikes, from a motel parking lot in Auburn, Ca in January of '78. The bikes were chained to a trailer that was chained to a light post. The trailer was recovered, and the Police found half of the frame of the Honda in the American River that Spring, but that was all. I'm glad that your bike is O.K. Hopefully, the thieves got enough of a scare that they won't be back. |

A friend of mine actually caught 2 burglars in his house, he laid one out with a pick handle & the other was so scared he crapped himself. He went through their pockets & took their cash to help pay the damage. He also copied their IDs, then let them go with the warning that he knew who they were & where to find them so not to come back, & to tell their friends not to bother either. He's had no trouble since. |

Seeing how peaceful I brag about it is here lately there have been a lot of petty crimes. I had an old Alpine Car Alarm System sitting in the garage doing nothing so recently after a couple of the neighbors sheds got hit I installed that in the garge. Key Fob acitvation and real loud. The beauty is that its 12 volts so I have the old bettery from the bike on it with a trickle charger. Damm prescription Drug Trade is whats driving the petty crimes up here. |

I rather be lied to, than ripped off. What's the difference? Somebody is taking advantage of you either way. Grumpy...I admire your friends approach. Wonder how that would work in the Bronx? LOL Actually, I wouldn't know. I spent a lot of time in NYC and the Bronx during my career and have no desire to ever see it again. Apologies to Court and anyone else that lives there. |

Vegas. Good, but hard to believe. I still crack up when my guys come to work with a shiner and give me the I fell excuse. When does that excuse wear off??? LOL! I've got a Chow-chow/Great Dane mix (Yea, hard to imagine, think Marmaduke). I leave my bike in the garage with the key in it. If he perks up at night, I just let him out. He chased off some crooks trying to steal our neighbors car. I never worry... Can't beat a great dog in the end. |

Crusty, Buells DO get stolen! My Buell was stolen last Thanksgiving 2003. What a shock to see my Honda, and Harley sitting there, but no Buell. It was recovered, Thank God. All my Buells no have alarms WITH battery back-up. (it's too easy to disconnect the battery) As far as protecting your bike, I like the Pit bull idea. Although mine used to chew the footpegs off my bikes, LoL. A simple intercom system, (FM transmitter, no wires) would work, wiring the doors to sirens would work also... Just food for thought. |

I like the Pit Bull idea..but you should do something like the bumper sticker that says"This garage is protected by a Pit Bull with AIDS."I also heard about some drug dealers having their Pit bulls vocal cords cut so they wouldnt be able to alarm the burglar before they did get in . What a nice surprise that'd be. |

I also heard of removing the toenails as well as the vocal cords on dobies... Very cruel but total silence not even tail swish.... |
