Local chapter requires being voted in. Someone is screwing with your head, either that or the local chapter is just completely nutz. That is not the way HOG works & if they are doing things that way its completely against HD's concept. |

That's the way it's done here. You do three events and you get voted in. I've seen it done twice now for everyone. BTW, forgot to mention, when I told them what I rode I got some cheers in there. No one was negative about the Buell. Had two guys at then end ask me some questions about the bike also. (Message edited by cataract2 on December 19, 2004) |

Get hold of the HOG handbook & you will see that what they are doing is against what HD preaches & wants done. Voted into a chapter, ridiculous. Must think they are a 1% crowd. |

you sure you're not prospecting with the OLs down there, or the Penguins? ("neighbors say cataract was such a nice boy...can't understand what happened..." |

check your HOG bylaw book, catamaran- anything about when you're expected to fight, and whether or not you have to first remove your HOG rings? |

I wouldnt doubt it, can you believe they actually have rules stating that the HOG patches you purchase can only be attached to "official" HD garments? And they cant be torn or raggy. Hmm, HD boutiques sell the denim vests with the "raggy" shoulders, wonder if the patch police will confiscate them from you? Thats about asinine as it could get. |

Apologies if this has already been covered but there's an official BRAG guidebook issued by BRAG HQ. Also we have found at Glendale/Hollywood HD/Buell that by being aligned with the HOG chapter, we can do better at fundraising. We get Glendale to front us money to cover costs of burgers, soda, hotdogs (yes and veggie-burgers) - so we can do a BBQ while the shop does their parking lot sale - live band, BBQ - the shop gets bucks, we pocket what money we make from the BBQ (after reimbursing the shop for their up-front $$) We are going to be doing raffles at our meetings. We meet at the shop before rides so we get donated stuff from the shop as well as members. Sell raffle tickets for $1 each, $5 for 6 tickets. Each prize or group of prizes has a shoebox with a slot for tickets. If you REALLY want an XB9 shop manual, you probably buy $10 and put every ticket in that box. If you want a T-shirt, but want the coffee mug more, you put maybe 4 tix in the T-shirt box, 8 in the mug box and maybe your other 4 tix in the box in front of the Harley book... kinda get the idea? Members can donate stuff too. I have stuff I'm not using on my XB since it became a racebike. Could donate a box of XB spares - lights, belt, other misc goodies. It is cool to have a dealer working with you though. |

That's the way I'm hoping to setup the Brag group here Slaughter. I want to keep the politics to a bare min. To be a full member you must own a Buell or HD and to be an associate you much have someone who own a Buell or HD in the group sponser you. No voting in, but you must be a participating member. I dunno, just throwing ideas out right now. (Message edited by cataract2 on December 19, 2004) |

Yep - Sunny owns a couple Hondas and is BRAG as an associate. Yeah, we have a lot of "other-than" bikes on our rides. Even though HOG is a different culture, you still have to work it through the dealer for BRAG and playing together with HOG only helps... besides they've been doing it longer and can help a bunch from an organizing standpoint. Considering how much money she has put up to the race effort, she owns more of my 2 Buells than I do. |

or.........................you could just start your own org. We've got that in our "pushrod rebellion" out at Willow Springs Raceway. We're even creating an "Unoffcial" class in Twins races made up of Buell or HD based bikes. There's the official results posted and taped to the inside of the window - and then there is our unofficial results posted on the outside of the scorer's window. We're a splinter group that met through BRAG rides but are racers or serious track nuts. That suits our needs as Buell racers more than BRAG - even though our BRAG Group has raised lots of $$ for our racing. This mixed group is based ut of Glendale and Bartels, possibly a couple other dealers too. We do our own thing and none of it conflicts with our BRAG club activities. Next year we're going to have about a dozen Buell racers after a new crop takes new racer school in Jan. Our BRAG Club asks for updates, gets members out to the track. No conflict. |

It must help having a BRAG club closed to a track. My Track is I-684 at 6:30 am - it's more like a combo of Cannonball Run meets Rollerball......very challenging at 95mph. |

Steve" Would you send me some information on how you got the race group set up? And/or updates on what you are doing. Being within such close proximity to LVMS and the track out at Parhump, that could be an interesting notion to pitch to the dealership here over the coming months. Thanks! Nick |

Nick, The "race group" just took off. We started talking it up on BRAG rides, carried it to track days and over a year, a group of a half dozen just started talking the idea up. This January, a few more of them are going to get their licenses (we'll see how many follow through) The local dealer - Glendale/Hollywood HD/Buell sponsors our BRAG Club and is toying with the idea of some more direct support of the racing at the club level. You have to keep in mind, this is NOT a legitimate BRAG effort but simply a group of us within our BRAG club doing it. We will store my racebike on the showroom floor when there's room, we invite anybody to show up at the races and to hang in the pits with us and generally try to be pretty all-inclusive since we are making new friends all the time. This is evolving this year to become a bigger effort. We are establishing a Buell (and HD) area out at Willow Springs every month so that if somebody wanted to come out on say the Friday preceeding the race (a public track day through WSMC) - all they have to do is show up knowing that they don't have to worry about bringing tools for their first time out (just money!) - because between the Glendale/Hollywood and Bartels groups, we have generators, tools and tons of advice and support. We tend to support Sportbike Track Time. They are coming up to Pahrump again this year and our mob will very likely go up again since we had over 20 members show up last year. Maybe their first Pahrump track day would be a good time to bring your dealer contacts out to the track because the guys who run Glendale and Hollywood will almost certainly be there taking part. http://sportbiketracktime.com/schedule_western2005.html Those weekends do not conflict with Willow Springs race weekends so are possibilities. Our Club hasn't committed but based on the response last year, I'd bet we get a good turnout again. You can email our BRAG group - Candice and Tim Hurley - they're the prime movers (and enthusiastic co-participants in the track/race thing) because they're setting up the schedule of events for the coming year. They can be gotten in touch with via email (forgive the disguised email address hoping to defeat spambots): 2whlnut "at" sbcglobal (insert dot) net We had talked about returning to Pahrump for at least one track day in 2005. Stay in touch. (Message edited by slaughter on January 01, 2005) |

Whoever said you had to be voted into your local HOG group is either very confused, or lying outright. Show up at the next meeting, pay your local dues. If anyone pitches a fit, contact national HOG. Also, there is no "prospecting" to join a HOG chapter. HOG membership is open to anyone owning a Harley Davidson or Buell. If that's what this group is telling you, would you really want to be a member? Sounds like more biker wannabees to me. Bob |
