I am in the process of removing the swingarm brace from my xb. The screw that holds the brace to the swingarm and also supports the belt guard is stripped (thanks sheldons hd). I've tried using a screw extractor, but it tears through the soft aluminum of the screw. Anyone have any suggestions how I might get this out? thanks! |

dont know of any aluminum fasteners there. perhaps you can center punch and then drill into the remaining screw, and then possible back it out with an appropriate extractor? maybe gently warm the area with propane, then let some penetrating oil work in their after drilling. good luck. dean |

Left hand drill bit and extreme care in it's use. |

edm. well, ok not to practical for mr. home mechanic. but ANYTHING can be burnt out with an edm. and, it's cheaper to find someone to edm it than it is to replace the swingarm if other methods are failing. also, you can remove steel hardwre from aluminum parts with alum (acid). http://bbs.homeshopmachinist.net/ubbs/search.cgi search with the words: broken tap |
