Charlie, that's not *THAT* much cheaper than "brand name" tires. Personally, I'd stick with something someone has tried on the XB. I *AM* cheap. There are two things I wont skimp on. That's brakes and tires. Personally, I am most likely either going with the Pirelli Scorpion syncs or Metzler Z6s for my S3T come spring. The Pirellis look especially good for wet weather riding, which IMHO, the Dunlops suck at. Anyone have experience with the Pirellis on tubers? The Avons that came on our XB9R when we bought it stick pretty good too. | ||

Court, YOu are correct but sometimes factories have exclusive contracts with just one company(Dunlop) There are often other manufacturers that offer tires that are at least as good if not better than the factory choices. Now I understand the XBs are different but I truly hated the Dunlop 205s on my S2 and S3. The Bridgestone BT20 is a much better tire for the sport touring bike. Aaron will back that claim up as well. And if it was such a good tire then why did Dunlop stop making it? | ||

Just shop some of the on line aftermarket places.Grab a Cycle World and look at all the ads.I always find good tire deals.Have had good luck with Dunlop,Avon,Michelin,Pirelli---take your pick. | ||

I did a Google search for motorcycle tire/discount. Got a great set of Bridgestone sport/touring tires for $130.00 from a company out of California. I can't complain any at all about their performance, and for that kinda price, I couldn't put a Shinko on. | ||

I looked at it this way a couple months ago when I spent $245 to get a pair of Michelin's delivered to my door. How much would it cost me to low side the bike? Answer; If I'm lucky only the $500 dollar deductible and some pride. I care not to think of the other end of that cost. At that point even expensive tires are cheap! You're 2,899 miles into a 5,000 mile trip, 36 miles from the nearest town and 115 miles from the nearest dealership that carries motorcycle tires. Is this any time to worry whether your soft track tires are going to hold up for an another 100 miles. (been there, done that, hitched to town and bought a new tire). Rob | ||
