Don't know if this has been discussed or not. "...as of Jan 1st,2005 all cell phone numbers will be made public to telemarketers...this will eat up your minutes....you have until Dec. 15th to get on the do not call list....call 1-888-382-1222 from your cell phone..." Got this from my uncle who installs cell towers and sets up new cell phone service areas. |

You can also delete your post if you don't wait too long. Then repost the same thing with a proper title. |

I've heard the same thing. Just think; you can be harassed by telemarketers 24/7, and YOU get to pay for it! Get on that no call list ASAP. |

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_cell_phone_directory.htm Nothing new, no news, but the number looks legit and there is nothing stopping you from putting a cell number on the do not call registry. |

The number is legit and I registered all my land lines and cellular numbers with them well over a year ago. Since then, no telemarketing calls on my land lines other that the one's that are excluded by law. With the advent of the new cellular directories, regardless when they will be published, I strongly urge everyone to put all their phone numbers on the do not call list. Is one thing to get interrupted at dinner by some sales jerk but even more maddening when it will cost you minutes on your plan. Not only is that an invasion of your privacy, it will be some rude dude costing you money to even hang up on them. Grrrr!!! |

Buelldealer...Thanks that is the site that I used. It should be linked to the phone number listed above. One thing to remember is that the do not call registry is only good for five years, so I logged my renewal date in my follow up system. |

The thing wrong with this is it should be a "do call" list, everyone should be on a do-not-call list and only be called if willing to be called. I've become very adept in getting solicitors to hang up on me. |

If you are ever on the recieving end of a tele call remember some things. 1. they are trying to sell something and any talk not related to the product is wasted time and goes in to the total time on the call which is a weighted call value. They must attempt to over come at least three objections during the call if they do not sell you something. 2. for a telemarketer to be effective he/she must make x total calls per hour and those calls must have contact with someone. Not at home does not count. they are then incented on total calls and total sales. 3. Most telemarketers are just like you and me it just so happens that this is the job they do and it pays better that most other available jobs around. We have lots of companies around here that do the telemarketing thing. One very large Credit card company, several other product types as well. Dont be to hard on the caller. they know that they are not really all that welcome to the people they call. Heck they have all of maybe 10 seconds to see who it is they are calling. and learn how to pronounce names etc.. Having done that job there are lots of stories I could tell but can not. Sandy |

"Dont be to hard on the caller. " Yeah, right, I did a little phone soliciting selling circus tickets after high school. Wisconsin state law requires them to identify themselves, state their name, and give a telephone number that they can be reached at. I am not required to identify myself to them. They called my number, it's none of their business who answers my telephone, and it's out of line for them to demand to speak to the person who's name they are calling. I've actually had some of them get threatening with me when I refused to state who I am and requested that they comply with state law, a few wound up speaking with the local police department personnel. If they won't play fair then I don't have to be nice. And the third or fourth time I have to tell them to remove me from their call list they are also in violation of various laws. Don't be hard on them, yeah, right. |

Please check out http://www.tommabe.com He is a guy who finally got tired of the mid-day telemarketers. He ran a business out of his home and could not afford to NOT answer the phone. He's a great comic wit and some of the mind games he plays with the telemarketers are priceless. There are some active links there to sound bytes worth listening to. |

Isn't "buke" the way Canadians pronounce "bike"? I only ride my buke in the summer, eh. |

Mike, I dont even give em the time of day. Answer the phone & if they pronounce my wifes name wrong or start with a sales pitch I simply hang up. No goodbye or anything, & I dont care. Milwaukee journal setinel can be real pricks when calling. They called me every couple days for about a month. Each time I would tell them no thanks, I dont want your paper. They would ask why, accuse me of being illiterate, a cheapskate, etc. I finally had to place a couple calls..couldnt get thru the 1st time to the head of their circulation department & notified them I was having the police tap my phone & any further calls from them would result in charges...I was bluffing but they didnt know. Havent had a call from them in years now. |
