These guys are coming out with some cool looking new bikes: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/02december04_moto_morini.html They used to make some nifty small displacement (350-500 cc) V-twin bikes. HD supposedly seriously considered purchasing them in the 1970's to provide a source for smaller displacement V-twin powered motorcycles but the deal fell through. Moto Morini finally went belly up a few years back. I'm not sure whether the new company is new from the ground up, but evidently there is at least some connection with the original brand. Cool looking bike at any rate. Here's a link to the official company site: http://www.motomorini.com (Message edited by whodom on December 03, 2004) (Message edited by whodom on December 03, 2004) |

Funny...they have a 9 and a 12! The styling looks like the bike is an offspring from a XBS and a Ducati Monster. Looks like fun to me. I wonder if they'll actually export them to the States or if they'll be in show bike limbo like a certain KTM?? |

My uncle had one of these: http://www.users.bigpond.com/ic/image/3.5spada.gif I remember begging him to let me ride it. I was visiting Italy, about 16 years old, and may have exaggerated slightly my motorcycling experience to an already skeptical uncle. The battery was dead, but lo and behold, there was the kickstarter. After he started it up and I jumped on I noticed that some joker had switched the rear brake with the toe shifter. I was perplexed. I had never ridden anything bigger than a 125 dirt bike, and I also was unfamiliar with high (relatively) pegs and clip on bars. I mustered all the skill I could and calmly - and surprisingly smoothly - took off down the narrow street. I was conscious of the reversed shifter and managed it quite well, until at one point I unconsciously downshifted with the rear brake and stalled out. At this point I was about a mile out, with no electric start, and a vague idea of how to operate the kickstarter. I gave up after about ten minutes of cursing and started walking the bike home. An old woman was sweeping the sidewalk and with the genetic fear of motorcycles that all Italian women seem to have, stated that I was better off pushing than riding. I laughed it off, and decided to try and kick start it one more time. She came to life and I started back, and arrived to find a nervous uncle who was about 10 seconds away from sending out the dogs to look for me. That's my Morini story, and I wish them luck on this reincarnation of the marque. |
