Quite interesting. I appreciate the stunt riders skill and entertainment value but not on public roads.

That is grossly negligent behavior and endangers the lives of anyone in the immediate vicinity.

Considering drag racing got its start the same way and developed into a major track industry, I feel the stunt riders have an equal opportunity. Just get it off the streets now before we all get harassed to death by the LEO's.

"What is the law. You're gonna tell me I can only go this fast on this road but a little faster on that road."

...all that skill and not a freakin' brain cell to back it up.

When he crashes and kills himself (hopefully noone else) I'll just consider it chlorinating the gene pool.

<sigh>

I know it is dangerous and could scare other motorists but that was a horrible report. Those reporters were so biased and the guy seemed to be more prejudiced because he had no clue as to what is going on. And the cop that was killed was responding not chasing a motorcyclist. Like it or not his crash is attributed to a mistake on his part. I just can not stand such biased media.

Not condoning the action but I think motorcyclists as a whole deserve a more fair report. They made it seem like a majority ride like that.

It is all B.S., the majority of riders don't ride like that. Rarely does a bike take out a car it is mostly the other way around. The woman who was shown was the same one who had 8 people in her SUV with no seat belts the police already said if they had been wearing them they wouldn't hve been seriously injured. The cop who was killed should have backed off rather than getting himself killed trying to chase down a bike. Yellow journalism at its best. Get the bikes out and let the young uns ride, time to thin the herd

Bias is a good word...slanted is another.

I would have suggested getting comments from at least 5-10 other motorcyclists in a group to see what they have to say on the topic. This would show the variety of people who are on two wheels.

Extremism is everywhere...hell the journalists have the same thing between this video clip and the magazines in the stores talking about aliens landing on earth...

I never really cared for Special Edition anyway. Toilet journalism like the National Enquirer.

Our society are like a heard of cows and will believe anything and everything that is thrown at them when they watch the "boob tube".

That "investigative news" piece just gave us, the "sport bike rider" a black eye. And the idiots that where shown in the video did not help matters in the slightest.

I read what was written by the press in the case of the FHP officer that crashed and burned here in Florida near Orlando. While it is tragic and I don't condone wreckless riding the officer simply practiced bad judgement. Case involves a report of a Porshe racing a GXR on I-4. Officer spots the bike and pulls a u-turn across the median. Officer is in a special high-pursuit vehicle. (Get the picture.) He takes off after the bike but never even sees it once he gets turned around. By definition this was "not a pursuit". (quote from the FHP). The FHP vehicle blows a tire and the officer looses control, clips another vehicle and then crashes. IMHO the FHP officer exercised bad judgement and placed others in harms way by doing so. Central Florida has a history of agencies using bad judgement when it come to police pursuit, unfortunately.

What an idiot-

"What IS the Law??? The Law is what were told it's to be"

DUH, Laws aren't random rules made up for no reason they are THE LAW and are there for a reason- to protect stupid people from themselves and the rest of us from the stupid people

Then this guy says "They (people) can be terrified because they haven't been trained"

How do you 'train' someone to expect a motorcycle to come by at 70mph doing stunts on a public street???

People look worse when they open their mouth and try to explain their inexcusable behavior.

This guys was perfect for such a one sided Squid report.

That trooper supposedly picked up a nail as he did a U-turn through the median of I4. As he accelerated to over 100 mph his tire lost air, overheated and then tore apart. He was definitely "in pursuit" but that is a no no now so they call it "responding".

I attend Thurs. Bike Night in Orlando. Was there last night. I usually ride my Bourget in lieu of the Buell as it consists mainly of posing at a Steak & Shake and a Hooters. The sport bike guys do get a bit wild at times, though things have been toned down some since that trooper incident.

Central Florida has a history of having more cops with nothing to do (little or no crime) so the whole departments are geared towards traffic enforcement as evidenced by all the cars and motorcycles being equipped with radar.

I can't believe that any one would defend those whackos doing stunts on the streets and freeways. Total insanity on the riders part.

As far as the remark the rider made about the law. What is he thinking? That guy is an ID-10-T!

I still think it is an art form that has evolved into a competitive sport. I like it and have a sincere respect for the talent it takes to do.

Just keep it off the roads and make it a spectator sport with some prize money. They can still profit from their video's and not risk the safety of others on public roads as well as the reputation of motorcyclists in general. God knows, we take enough heat as it is and this just makes matters worse. Much Worse!!!

Of interest, I am clueless as to what the cost of insuring a stunt riding event on private property would be. However, I feel safe in assuming it would be much greater than what Reg pays for his docile BattleTrax events and perhaps even more than the other organizations do for Track Days.

Thus, risking life and limb on public streets may be their only way of filming the stunts with the added excitement of having other vehicles in the video's without acting responsibly by contracting private land, vehicles, stunt drivers and paying the insurance and other related expenses like the rest of the Film Industry must do.

Having produced a number of commercials, training films, etc., on location, you can trust me when I say that it is a highly regulated industry.

Just for simple productions outdoors, In addition to excess liability insurance, I had to get permits, provide police, fire and EMT services, caterers, portable toilets, crowd control services, ad nauseum just to film a simple commercial that really posed no threat to the environment or the safety of those in the vicinity.

Think about that and you will see where these Stunter's are violating a lot more laws than just traffic laws.

Not all of the stunts are done in traffic. Some of the footage in the videos is in parking lots, old tracks and back roads. There is kind of an "outlaw" mentality. But get this; whether you ride safe or not you are grouped into that same "outlaw" image just because you ride a bike, eh.

I was on the freeway the other day and some guy starts flipping me off a he was passing ME.I was just cruising & I couldn't figure out what he was so pissed about. Well now I know, after watching that video. That guy must have watched that episode the night before. And here I am wearing the exact same jacket as the guy in the video. Great! Talk about stereotyping ! F*#k the media, they jeopardize our (the one's that obey the law)safety by airing that one sided sh*t .

FreakyVW...Just wait, some stunter is going to insight some road rage out there and the So Cal's Freeway Shootings from the 1980's will be back in vogue.

Back when that was going on, I was traveling all the hot spots on a daily basis out there. Was a little concerning in a car, but it would be down right SCARY if I were riding a bike.

I get crap from drivers all the time, just two nights ago I was called and @sshole for not moving fast enough in stop and go, I also got ran off the road a couple weeks ago for the same thing. I was sitting and after 30 min. of stop, go, stop, go I gave my wrists a break, well about 3 to 4 car lengths between me and the others and this crazed lunatic decides to wail on her horn, scream and swear and so on, now I respond with "where do you want me to go, 20 feet to stop again? you still got 400 yards to the stop sign! At that point she started to pass me in a no passing zone and then ran me off the road, thank heaven I was only going about 10 mph, INNOCENT DRIVERS MY ARSE, half of these so called INNOCENT DRIVERS cant even tell you what the lines in the road mean, what the signs mean, what the fast lane is, read english or have a lick of common sense or common courtesy for their fellow drivers riders. I think America should take notes from Germany on our driving "RIGHTS"(privelige) and make these idiots learn how to drive and practice safe driving long before they consider giving them a license! Just my opinion.

Oh yeah, that fool in the video is just a fool, he will die on the freeway and that is what he deserves.

Sensationalism == news

At least in this country. I'm probably a pretty typical commuting rider (though I do a lot of weekend riding, too). Went about 250,000 miles between my first accident (my fault) at 21 and getting taken down by an F-150 a couple weeks ago (his fault). But no one is interested in those 250K miles in between.

"I see you're a motorcyclist. Tell me something about your typical ride."

"Well, after slipping into my leathers I climb on and sit in traffic for 32 uneventful miles each way to work. In spite of traffic it's a pretty relaxing way to commute."

"Yeah, but what about that bike? How fast is it? Don't you love doing wheelies?"

"Well, it goes 50-60 mph just like every other vehicle during rush hour. And I don't actually know anyone that wheelies on the street."

"Cut!"

Yeah...and all of our insurance rates will go up accordingly. Well, at least as long as we are still allowed to own motorcycles and operate them on public roads.

Please don't overlook the effectiveness of Public Opinion on Local, State and Federal Laws. Your right to ride might be taken away compliments of some clown trying to exert his perceived rights.

Edited to add...

Perhaps the best way around this is to work with the AMA and other MC Organizations to initiate a public relations program that advises that these illegal stunts are the practices of a very small percentage of riders and urging a boycott of all such films that are made on public roads.

Just a thought.

I completely agree with you Ethanr. It seems that is all the media does now. Show the worst example of everything and present it as the norm. I'll say this, whenever you see that show worlds wildest police chases (I think thats what its called) 99.9 percent of the time they are chasing cars not bikes. They just try to get people all heated up about everything. Next thing you know out come the laws taking more and more of our freedoms away, for our own good of course. After all we must be saved from ourselves! I dont agree with what that guys doing at all(the reporter or the moron riding). Reporting like that justs spreads more and more fear among people, without showing the other side of the story. You could make the same report about cars, semi-trucks, jetskis, boats, iraq, guns, tickle me elmos, hunting, gays ect,ect......

Show the worst you can find in any of these things and others, hell I'll even throw in myself. What have you got?

Reality TV shows! example: take some where around 100 hours of tape and put that into 43 minutes of a one hour show. What do they pick to put in there? Just watch American Hot Rod or Choppers and thats what you get. I wouldnt judge anybody I see on these programs by just watching the shows. Cause I think the producers twist and cut the tape to show the worst in these guys.

Even though most riders dont ride like this, people always remember the bad or worst.Guys like that are the reason why the insurance on our bikes continues to skyrocket.Guys that ride like that are digging a hole that all of us who ride sport bikes are being pushed in,and by his reasoning,he just continued to dig deaper. If you have to do stunt riding, there are plenty of places to go ,besides crowded highways or streets.
