Have any of you tried these. I was told that they are almost as good as penske, and quite a bit less money. |

Good stuff, not that I have first hand experience with them... Call Al Lighton at American Sport Bike. He will walk you through all the options. He's been there, done it, got the Tshirt, and will set you right. |

Never ridden on a Penske, but the Works Performance is a BIG improvement over stock. I can recommend them.

In some ways, the Works shock is better than a Penske. It doesn't have the length adjustment feature of the Penske (Nice!), and it doesn't have the Buell race heritage. But the latter is likely more due to when it came out relative to when the "big" Buell tuber racing teams started building up bikes, and Penske's road race reputation for all motorcycle road racing. (my guess). Works has a decent reputation in dirt racing, but I don't hear much about them in road racing. The Works shock has the remote reservoir on the correct side of the piston. That is to say, on a wheel rise event, the reservoir is on the compression side of the piston. For most Penske shocks, this is also true. But for the Buell, Penske adapted their standard body/design, and that put the reservoir hose on the "pull" side of the piston rather than the push. This makes the compression adjuster on the remote reservoir actually be the rebound adjuster, and vice versa. As a result, the compression adjuster loses it's range of tunability. The rear adjuster is the compression adjuster on the Penske, and it doesn't have as large a tuning range, and can't be had with slow and fast range adjust that the higher end Penske's do. I don't recommend the high end Penske we sell as a result, no use in paying for a dual range rebound adjuster, it's overkill for most mere mortals. All that said, the Penske is a fine shock, I love the one on my S1W. But the Works shock on my S3 is pretty darn nice too, a huge improvement over the stock Showa is all ways. And the Works shock is a gorgeous piece, nicer looking than the Penske, IMHO. In the cosmetics department, the Showa is a DNF. Freakin hideous looking blob-o-scratched-chrome with a propensity to cover itself in oil. Ithinkthe Showas are a pain-in-th- to adjust the preload on, too. The Penske's and Works shocks are very easy. With the Showa, I really never adjusted the preload if I was weighing down the bike because of the difficulty in doing it. Wouldnt' think twice about doing that with either the Penske or the Works shock. Al |
