Looks like your President is visiting Canada!!!! The only thing that really pissed me off is that there was no credit given to Newfoundland - MOST of the flights durning that incident were actually diverted to Newfoundland. I guess we were good enough to blow up in case there were bombs on the planes but not enough to give recognition to. I am not totally surprised seeing that during his first election he had no clue about Canada - This was proven in a tv show called "Talking to Americans" Here is the article from Canadian Broadcasting Corporation!!!! Bush starting on Tuesday. Protesters in Ottawa, including the No to Bush Committee, are planning a noon march against the war in Iraq, and a candlelight vigil on Parliament Hill. "The No to Bush Committee, in a central organizing way, has put on these two events in order to...give Bush a resounding welcome," said organizer Joe Cressy. Along with possible traffic tie-ups caused by the demonstrations, police are warning of road closures while Bush travels throughout the city. The main route from the airport to the city's downtown core will be shut when Bush arrives Tuesday morning, and when he leaves Wednesday morning. Air traffic is also being limited over Parliament Hill and around the airports in Ottawa and Halifax, with takeoffs prohibited 20 minutes prior to his arrival and 20 minutes after his departure from both cities. Demonstration near Bush speech site In Halifax, anti-war activists say they hope Bush hears their message during his speech on Wednesday at Pier 21, on the city's downtown waterfront. The Halifax Peace Coalition is organizing a rally outside City Hall, a short distance from Pier 21, which marks the spot where thousands of immigrants first landed in Canada. The organization says it's demonstrating against the war in Iraq, Bush's unilateralism and his refusal to ratify human rights and environmental agreements. They plan to march to the pier, holding signs reading "He's Not Welcome." "It'll be a mass, peaceful demonstration in the tradition of the gigantic demonstrations that helped keep Canada out of the war in Iraq," said George Diamond, with the coalition. RCMP in Halifax said Monday they'll set up a special area for the demonstrators opposite the front door to Pier 21. Police will also shut down parts of the boardwalk along the waterfront during the speech. It's unlikely the demonstrators will get any closer to Bush. Security will be tight during the president's two-hour stop in Halifax, and it's unclear whether he'll be driven from the airport to Pier 21 or take a helicopter. His hand-picked audience for the speech includes dignitaries from the region, as well as people who housed stranded passengers following the Sept. 11 attacks three years ago. | ||

Canada sure is picky about wars...y'awl were happy mucking it up in Desert Storm, Somalia and Afghanistan but not in Iraq...? Canada has a small armed force. How do y'awl keep track of what they're up to anyway? Y'awl don't want to set foot in Iraq because of your peace activists and resident Muslim contingents does that also mean y'awl aren't supporting the U.S. and coalition efforts in other ways?  | ||

Kev -- Canada has been a good friend to the US for darned near as long as there has been a US -- I'm thinkin that being picky about wars iks a good thing nice troll though ;-} Newf -- I recently re-read a piece about the HUGE humanitarian effort centered around Gander duing the 9/11 events -- thanks to you and your neighbors for their hospitality! | ||

Canada Busy Sending Back Bush-Dodgers By Joe Blundo The Columbus Dispatch November 16, 2004 The flood of American liberals sneaking across the border into Canada has intensified in the past week, sparking calls for increased patrols to stop the illegal immigration. The re-election of President Bush is prompting the exodus among left-leaning citizens who fear they'll soon be required to hunt, pray and agree with Bill O'Reilly. Canadian border farmers say it's not uncommon to see dozens of sociology professors, animal-rights activists and Unitarians crossing their fields at night. "I went out to milk the cows the other day, and there was a Hollywood producer huddled in the barn," said Manitoba farmer Red Greenfield, whose acreage borders North Dakota. The producer was cold, exhausted and hungry. "He asked me if I could spare a latte and some free-range chicken. When I said I didn't have any, he left. When Montreal and Ottowa are in flames and under attack please rest assured that America will leap to aid and defend our good neighbor, and we'll ask for nothing in return. Especially not for merely allowing some redirected overseas commercial airliners to land in our airports. Three hour line ups at blood banks and thousands of man hours collecting tractor trailer loads of donated supplies that got sent directly to the site in NY. Nobody asked for anything in return then either. BTW- Your President isn't very popular here true, but don't construe that as American hating. I guess that's the beauty of free democratic societies working together, we can disagree on issues and not have to shoot at each other. | ||

Blake -- er, ya might wanna think about how you like your crow -- rare, well done, or slathered with Catsup Gander was backed up BIG time with incoming flights right after we closed our airspace -- many, if not most of those on the planes were US (not american) citizens -- all the passengers were housed, fed, given places to eliminate the food, entertained, taken on tours of the island, and generally treated like guests for the duration -- at great expense, and personal sacrifice the the citezens of Newfie's home -- no bills were presented, no pay back demanded, and, from all reports, all the passengers were treated with respect and care -- this in spite of the fact that many were thinking that many of the incoming aircraft contained explosive devices (you may remember the general level of confusion imediately after the the 4 planes wents down) to put it another way, the Newfie's acted the way I would hope my community would -- it was a LOT more than "some" aircraft to land | ||

Nope, didnt get to fire them, but i would put money on it, if i had more time, i could have, the guy was just super cool, but the whole thing was sureal, i am going to pull a court and say, remind me to tell you about it one day Man, that's a Johnny gun in front of the rear tire, do you know how rare those are? I know as much about guns as i do makeing a life form from orgainc chemicals, but i am willing to bet that it's not as rare as the revolutionary flit locks he had, or the gun from the french candian wars, or some of the other guns he had, again it was a sureal day that involved other things that just are beyond explination, great time, and one of the few times i felt scared on the whoe trip, not because of the owner, just the amount of guns that were there, it was just beyond comprehention R | ||

Oh no Blake got guns!!!! Roger is correct, Now the gun guys are gonna come down on me hard. My dad has about 6 guns sitting in his home - mostly high power hunting rifles. There are two guns in my home owned by my father in law. Yeah we got guns, but we ain't allowed to carry them around. As for being pissed off - well not really pissed off but I guess a bit disappointed that we were not recognized - ONCE AGAIN. Sometimes I think its a good thing that everyone Don't know Just HOW NICE it is here.!!!!! | ||

Bill, I recognize Newfoundland! I watched some of the news while I was up there and I thought that I was watching a Michael Moore movie. If that's what passes off as news in Canada and Europe, no wonder so many hate us. Our own main stream media is falling on its face due to the blatant bias that it shows. What I can't figure out is how people are acting now about the terrorists just like people tried to appease Hitler and the Nazis leading up to WWII. Do they think that if they ignore the problem it will just go away? | ||

Their coverage of the presidential election was rated by highly respected non-partisan media watch groups as the least biased of all the TV news organizations. Our three big network news organizations and CNN were pretty much on the Kerry campaign team. | ||

I felt mine was more of a historical comment than political. But I do find it ironic that one side wants to stop talk radio but has no problem with the blatant bias from the other side. (is this ok Blake?) | ||
