Anybody have any experience with icon. This vest is only 100 bucks. Seems like more protection than my dianese back protector. But don't know anything about there quality. Any info? wish I had a pic or a link but I lag. | ||

Have read several reviews from owners of the Icon gear & its all been positive. I just wish it wasnt quite so bling bling looking. I would feel kinda odd wearing a jacket or vest that looks like it was designed for a 20 yr old. | ||

Dyna, some of the actual names for their clothing is "Bling Bling". They do seem to be catering to the fast-and-the-furious-biker-boyz seen, but some their other stuff looks good. They make some nice boots too. | ||

There is no way I could wear something like this, I would feel very foolish. Now if I was 19years old then sure.   I prefer the more sedated look of gear such as Joe Rocket ro Firstgear. For bikes, bring on the bling but for gear give me "normal" whatever your interpretation of normal is  | ||

LOL...those gloves look like something from Terminator. If they would have ever gotten back to me regarding the CE certification of that vest I might own one already. As it is, I'm not buying it if they won't even tell me if it's certified or not. | ||

i like some of there jackets but the one in the pic above looks weird and those gloves too but some of there others look good | ||

Sure, the TiMax gloves look... ummmm... weird... But, hey, I definitely feel protected with 13 plates of titanium and 60 studs on each hand. Not really into the gold plated ones, but, to each his own. Plus, the leather is Armor Tan from Pittards... Good stuff. Also crash tested. One small tear on one palm (the studded part), other glove had several scratches on the titanium. My hands, though, didn't even pick up the slightest bruise. I like them, and more important, I trust them. (Of course, I also absolutely love it when someone gives me the finger, I give it back, and they get that look of fear in their eyes when they see the glove... Now THAT's fun. lol...) | ||

 At least this doesn't look too Blingish. Looks pretty well made, I've seen one or two at bike night, but didn't ask about them. I've got the Heavy Duty Icon gloves, and they've held up well though about 10thousand miles of all weather riding. | ||

I bought the vest, sight unseen. I was dissapointed. Very lightweight in my opinion. I sold it to a club member. I had ordered it online for $80.00, sold it for $70.00 to avoid shipping and restock fees. I may go with moto-cross hard/soft armor. At least on guy in my club crashed on the street and his moto-cross armor saved him some broken bones. | ||

When the Icon stuff first came out I spoke to the Owner at a New product release that Jerry Johnson brought me to..He said they named the TiMax gloves that because they were designed to look like MadMax clothing...since ,I've got a couple of friends that wear the 2 piece black canvas looking clothes and they both really like the stuff.I personally like the TiMax long cuff(gauntlet)gloves and they are on my Christmas list.Not sure about there helmets yet though... | ||

I have an Icon helmet, and was real happy for the first 3 months. Then it litterally started falling apart and Icon won't stand behind it. It is useable so I am going to bondo over the vents, repaint it and turn it into my cold weather helmet as my KBC Wolf is just getting too cold to ride with. | ||

Thanks for the info, Southern. I'd pretty much decided against getting it even if it was certified since they didn't respond to three e-mails. ...there's a shop near here having a sale that I think I'll check out; hopefully I can pick up a good protector there. | ||

I can recommend both the T-pro: http://www.johnsonleather.com and the High Velocity stuff: http://www.highvelocitygear.com Check my initial review of the High Velocity Gear jacket w/ back protector for comments on elbow armor fit/placement. The T-pro back protector is a super quality piece of kit - pricey, but well made and with Level 2 certification. It got a Best Buy rating from the British mag MCN. I have their armored shirt on order, but haven't had a chance to try it out. The High Velocity Gear jacket is a steal at that price. If you can live with the elbow armor location you're golden. If not, they will make you a custom. Whatever you choose, please choose to wear proper protective gear (PPG  ). I'll give you a good reason: I had the opportunity to test most of my gear at VIR recently: the front end washed out while slowing down for turn 1 at the en of the straight on the South Course. The SV hits an indicated 125 mph on the straight, and turn 1 is a 20 - 30 mph turn (blind, downhill, off camper, decreasing radius. No wonder they call it The Bitch). So I'd been working on moving up my brake markers, and after a warm-up lap in the 3rd session of the day, I go back to practicing. Get on the brakes and begin to slow down. Before I know it, I'm tumbling ... and tumbling ... and tumbling ... and tumbling ... and tumbling. Finally come to a stop on the track. I get up and off the track. Run to my bike, which has slid all the way past the cones indicating the turn - probably 60 feet past where I ended up. I get the bike turned off, get it upright and push it up to the corner workers station - at which point my double vision slowly starts to fade. Damage report - bike; bent rear-sets and the frame sliders about an inch shorter  Damage report - rider: Grade 1 AC separation right shoulder (i.e. shoulder hurts), bruised ribs left side, sore and a black and blue on the entire outside of my right thigh, bruised right knee, black'n blue on top of both feet. Conclusion; Helmet trashed but did it's job. Shoulder armor no doubt helped, but I wish I'd had the T-pro shirt. Thigh bruise was despite wearing T-pro padded shorts. It would have been a lot worse without them. Need better protection for my feet/ankles. My Daytona street boots obviously didn't cut it. Please buy gear - and wear it. Crashing hurts. Crashing without gear is likely to hurt more. Henrik | ||

A guy in my club wears motor-cross armor under a textile jacket which has armor in it. Double layer, saved him some broken bones in a pretty bad accident. | ||

I have worn my ICON super duty boots approx. a dozen times and the stitching along the top of the padding at the rear of the boot came apart. Cool concept, shabby construction. |
