We have finally got everything rolling to have Southern Nevada's first "Official" BRAG Chapter. My question is one of selecting a name. While I see many like the "Brew City Brag" as well as many that have "BRAG" in the name. We were told that the names "Brag", "Buell", or any reference to the sponsoring dealership. Are any of you familliar with these regulations and the naming schemes?

Yes...

The new rules indicate you can not incorperate the dealer or words BRAG in there,
Brew City was formed pre-rule change.
I named our club Battle Twins cause we have a RR1200 at our shop on display.

SInce your in Vegas you may want somethin related to Sin City like
Sin City Riders,
Double Downers (like Black jack)
Lucky 21's
Snake Eyes

Get creative cause you can't change it ; )

We can form a BRAG group, but we cannot call it a BRAG group? That defies reason.

Silliness, eh?

There are days I am pleased we submitted the name "Buell Owners Club" in articles of incorporation and as a "namestyle" in 1991".

I always thought it would be cute if Phil Wolfe and Don Chase would sue Buell for using the name.

sounds like the iron tower is attempting to distant itself from any potential legal issues generated by BRAG chapters --

while I can understand that, seems silly, especially in light of all the HOG chapters out there with the word HOG in their chapter names . . .

but, I'm sure, if I'd only finished college, I'd understand all this stuff

We are the 3% Bragging Rights Club....aka 3%ers. There is a lot of are floating around here on the BadWeb.

We got the name because Buell makes up 3% of H-D.

3%ers represent...

From 2004 BRAG Guidelines manual:
Article IV - Name and Affiliation
1. The Buell Motorcycle Company is the governing body for all BRAG clubs. Each club
affiliated with BRAG shall be a separate and independent organization providing services to
its club members on a not-for-profit basis.
2. Each affiliated club must adhere to this Charter and to BRAG Operating Policies.
3. Affiliated clubs shall be named after the respective city or locale of the sponsoring
dealership. BRAG shall have the right to approve club names.
4. Should BRAG determine, in its sole discretion, that a club is not adhering to this Charter,
BRAG may rescind its recognition of the club as a BRAG affiliated organization. Dealerships
may likewise rescind sponsorship of their club at any time, at which time the club’s BRAG
affiliation shall also cease.

Our current club name is "KC Central BRAG". Got official BRAG T-shirs that say so, so it must be true. Is there a recent revision that says can't use BRAG? Or did you mean to say Buell?

Found one more thing...
REQUESTED CLUB NAME:________________________________________

Also toyed around with "Sin City Thunderbikes" but.. I think the dealer is trying to steer away from Sin City anything. We'll see. We all have to go through some interview process with the dealership this week. Anyone been through that?

Nick, not sure who you're working with at the dealer, but when i was there earlier this year doing fund-raising for Alex's Rane Ride i spent some time with Dawn Schmidt, their Marketing Director, and made her aware of the existence of BADWEB and what a great means of advertising this site is for a pro-active Buell dealer. seems like with the pending formation of your BRAG club that it'd be a great move for them to contact Blake and sign up for a sponsorship package.

Jerry,
She is the very one that is our driving force right now. I talk to her almost daily as we move forward with the club. I think it would be wise of them to get on board here, but it seems that someone put a bug in their ear that "Harley" corporate was not really happy with the existence of the Bad Web.
Have you heard anything like that?

I'd be shocked if Buell approved "sin city" as it could be taken as too negative.

Nick, i've been organizing Buell-oriented rides and events since '96, and have encountered several different corporate Mothership mindsets over the years regarding where us "privates" fit into the scheme of things. to answer your question, no, i haven't heard anything like that, but on the other hand i'm not in the loop anymore like i used to be. Dave at Appleton doesn't seem to indicate by his superb salesmanship here that HIS dealership has a problem being a sponsor, and i defy anyone to tell me that the measly $500 a year it costs them to advertise here ain't money very well spent. my guess is that LVHD will come on board if they want to with little regard as to what Juneau Avenue may or may not have to say about it, and i assure you that if i was a dealer who really wanted to sell Buells and Buell-related products, Blake would have my check in hand IMMEDIATELY. good luck with the BRAG chapter - that's a giant store they have, and there are zero reasons why they can't become a Southwest powerhouse in the Buell biz.

>>>>that's a giant store they have, and there are zero reasons why they can't become a Southwest powerhouse in the Buell biz.

What my collegue says.

Bear in mind that LVHD Buell started their own, completly unrelated to Buell, skirmish with Harley-Davidson several years ago. I suspect there may be some, again unrealted to Buell, lingering animosity. Regardless of what happened it resulted in one of the fuunest and most profitable weekends I've ever had. : )

I'd suggest that regardless of any one person's mindset that a positive attitude and sincere effort are going to reward SOME dealer in the West. Bear in mind that the Western US has never been the moto-mecca some think. Here's a chance for some enterprising folks to cash in.

I'd tell them to "follow the light".

: )

Well I think we settled on Battle Born Riders. (Battle Born is on the state flag)

And Court, I think you may be right. They do own almost every dealer in NV and even one in Utah. I think the mothership gave them a vasectomy a few years ago.

On another note:
we also want to do rides and events with other dealers and riding groups. Has anyone caught any grief from BRAG for doing this?

Vegas: We have many Brag rides where there are multiple NON-BRAG members, in fact i'm not even a member and nobody stops me from taking brag rides so i don't see why they would have or even could have a problem with you riding with other groups. I'd actually like to see them stop you.

Same feelings & experiences as Jeremy. We have members of 2 different..maybe soon to be 3 different chapters get together for rides & what have you all the time.

Plus I wasnt even an official member of any chapter this past summer yet I still led 3 rides: D

On the Slimy Crud run, we had 4 out of 7 of us weren't Brag members.

On our last ride thru Kettle Moraine, there were 4 out of 12 of us not being Brag members.

I don't think it matters all that much.

Dyna, you an "official" member Brew City Brag member now? : )

CJ, its also a lot looser on the rules. For the HOG chapters they can be real anal about it..to the point of being pricks. They actually have an entire chapter on open & closed rides. Open is anyone closed is members, some can have guests others cant. Then they have waivers & other crap. Way way too political for something thats supposed to be about having fun.

Next meeting remember to ask me about the fund raising vs the books vs amount of $$ that was simply blown to hell..down right scary.

Avoid at all costs being anything remotely like HOG, it will take any & all fun out of it. Hell we have had meetings at Hals when the weather was nice were we just sat outside the building sitting on the curb & bsing. Treasurer when asked if we have money says "yep" dont know how much though: D I prefer the loose interpretation of the rules. I dealt with HOG for 6-7 years being a Road captain & actually becoming one of the "chosen ones" who actually was allowed a glimpse into the inner sanctum of what went on...............run away, run very far away very quickly if you see your chapter going that route.

I got the hell out & am so very glad I did.
