I'm trying to fix the last glitch on my recently acquired 2000 S3 and I've got a question on an obscure part. All of the hardware was missing from the inside of the rear seat lock. According to the book, this consists of the latch (whatever they call it), a nut, lockwasher, and a "cam". The latch is the only part available separately; otherwise you have to buy the whole lock assembly. I have the latch, I've gotten the correct nut, and I've got a lockwasher. Now, can anyone describe the "cam" part to me? The drawing in the shop manual doesn't show much detail. I figure I could probably fabricate something to work with a little effort if I knew what it looked like, or maybe the lock will work without it. Any input would be appreciated. TIA, Hugh |

I think the "cam " is the part that keeps the lock from turning 360 degrees. I may have one from my old lock. I will look when I get home from work and if I have it you will have one. |

Thanks Dave, that would be great. I'd hate to have to buy a whole seat lock to get one little teeny piece of hardware. |

I just thought of this. I think you can get parts for those locks at a locksmith. If there is one close to you that would be quicker. I will still look when I get home. |

Thanks for the tip. I searched the archives and found references to getting the part from a locksmith. |

I wouldn't mind seeing that pic myself. I just bought an S3T and found out once I got home that the latch had fallen into pieces. Hadn't thought about looking in the book to see what all was missing.... More than I realized! |

I realized that my latch was stripped beyond repair just prior to an 900 mile ride two weeks ago. I'm going to have to order a whole new seat lock assembly. Once I spent an hour working with this thing I now realize that it's not the sturdiest part of the bike JT |

Whodom, how have you made out on the seat lock? I have had to put the search on hold due to H-cane that was supposed to hit in my area. It missed me so I will dig through the Buell parts in the attic of the shop today. |

Dave- I haven't had a chance to do anything either. I had to move my daughter to college this weekend (Clemson). Thought the hurricane was going to get us (I'm near Charleston, SC) after it left you. Glad to hear you survived too. I'd appreciate it if you get a chance to look for the cam, but there's no rush. |
