Im thinking about,as a winter project, taking my Millenium cylinders and pistons off,and going with a Aerocharger. My bike runs great as it is,but how will it run with the Aerocharger?Has anyone done this to their bike?Is there a lag in power, before the turbo starts to wind up?Will the power be streetable thru twisties? Is it worth the trouble,or should I leave well enough alone? Thanks for any input or info!

Maybe Jim Witt and VR1203 can chime in here.Jim has one on a HD for a bunch of miles and VR has one on a Buell.
I am running one also, but have never run it on the street,Bonneville only.Works very nice for all of that.
There was a Buell kit on E-bay not long ago for a real steal.
And why take off the Millenium cylinders?

Richie -

No power lag and it is very streetable. However, adding it to your bike will give you many potential problems.

Jim,I think my Millenium pistons and cylinders give me 10-1 compression.I think I read, you need around 8-8.5 -1 for the aerocharger.
Roc,will the potential problems outweigh the idea of trying this out,or make it non worthwhile?

Nah,they bolt up to stock compression Buells(S-2's) and H/D's.Would certainly depend on how much boost you were pushing ,also.

What kind of power increase would one of this give?

Plan on fiddling with it . Correct carburation is a real pain. 10 to 1(+) gave me problems solved by Turbo Blue race fuel and water injection. Also your normal high overlap cam does'nt help things too much.I'm running just under 9 to 1 now and have no detonation with 93 octane as long as I don't fool with the boost signal to the turbo vane actuator. That gives me more boost = more power at the expense of a lot of extra heat. I used 883 to 1250 conversion dished pistons with thunderstorm heads to get that compression ratio.

Doughnut, 120 hp Thats the max power with the small turbo Aerocharger supplied with the kits floating around . I believe they were sized orginally to give sportster riders about a 5500 RPM max power range. They didn't bother to increase the size for the Buell . I spin mine up to 7000 RPM and the turbo will not pump that much air at that RPM.

Doughnut, the stock S-2 set-up was supposed to be good for 120-130 hp.Mine was on a Nallin 88" motor and was good for 180 HP.But your stock rods and cases don't like those numbers(Ask me how I know). There are also a bunch of different sized Aerochargers so one can get a bigger one to stuff more cfm in.2 differeent body size series and an assortment of different housing combos for both. The Turbo Doc out of Ogden Utah is a good source of info, etc on Aerochargers.

Hi, FMJ. Turbo Doc was supposed to be able to get Aerochargers beginning last month. Not any kits or anything like that ,just a turbo.I have not heard from him. So if a person is getting something used, set up for a Buell or Sportster,it will probably be the small one. Unless you found one from a snowmobile, they are bigger, having to feed a two stroke. The Aerochargers can be damaged and there are no parts to fix them(yet). I did get the flat slide working, I do not have real smooth carburation under 3000 rpm, I'm wondering if a different pilot jet or a needle reposition would help. It is hardly worth monkeying with it at this point!as it sits, today

Jim,my original is from a stock S-2 kit, and I did get one from a snowmobile for next generation LSR bike, but need to get it set-up/clocked to fit Buell.Still gonna use small one this year and maybe next.

Richie - If it were my only street bike I would not put an Aerocharger on it, but that is an individual decision.

FMJ, We have discussed this before ? Being you are getting 180 HP, you can't have the same turbo as mine. Mine would not support that much air flow, according to Aerocharger, the people that rebuilt mine. Considering the big motor you're running it would need a bigger turbo for those numbers. Maybe it got swapped or the kit was supplied with a bigger turbo before you bought it.Can you measure the compressor intake dia.? I can tell you what you have from that number.

Roc ,I agree, unless his only one he likes to tinker with more than ride!

I measured it and gave the # to Turbo Doc,he told me I needed a bigger one also, but the dyno and Bonneville don't lie.Aerocharger may have been a little conservative.Bike was making 121 HP without turbo.

Sorry to get off topic, but is that fairing available anywhere? Could I get it to go on an M2?

You could try it on anything with alot of mods. It was made to match up to a S1 skinny fuel tank. How about this ? I have not seen anyone running onw of these!
http://www.airtech-streamlining.com/buell/buellsb.htmlthis could be even better!!!!

Still think someone should buy one and make a mold from it......
