got one in the mail yesterday, asking about roads I ride regularly to help the factory plan a series research ride in the chicago/milwaukee -- please break the roads down into smooth, average, rought, really crappy, and let us know speeds/directions of travel so we can check em out --

sounds like some serious suspension testing is on the way . . .mebbe if I send em glossy 8.5X11s with arrows and captions, they'll let me ride along with em?

anyone else get the questionairre?

Interesting...

New product testing means a new product in the works. I'm sure that there are plenty of them on the drawing board and the mind boggles to venture what it is they are testing.

Everyone get your camera's ready, we need a spyshot.

Yeah, as in "Model T." Ever see the old films of those things in the muddy horse trails of old? Trust me, Wisconsin hasn't improved much since then.

Not to mention any factory asking where the good and bad sport bike roads are in Wisconsin has lost itself in its own mission statement. Hell, they live and work in the some of the best the State has to offer.

If they need more and better, all they need do is head to Southwest and West Central Wisconsin. Those roads are well documented on the sport bike websites which obviously they didn't think to check out.

Why do I get the feeling they should hire me in their marketing department. I'll sign and live up to the terms and conditions of a non-disclosure statement as I have hundreds of times before.

That will be one good thing if I do end up getting stuck in Madison...the roads in the surrounding area are much better than around here.

I've been to Wisconsin. If you want to see some Really crappy streets, come here to Massachusetts. I'll take you down some streets in Chelsea where you can see the cobblestones (that were laid down 200 years ago) at the bottom of the potholes. A friend of mine destroyed the front wheel of his BMW riding 10 MPH under the speed limit. Mud isn't necessary.

>>>>Not to mention any factory asking where the good and bad sport bike roads are in Wisconsin has lost itself in its own mission statement

That's an inaccurate statement.

The Test and Developement people at Buell are very familiar with WI roads.

I have ridden, for Buell, roads in 44 of the states and have a pretty fair feel for them. But....I respect local wisdom and when I go to CA (an area I am VERY familiar with) I'd never think about not asking Ferris, Denise, Lorraine, Reg or Howard Kelly.

Locals know wazup.

In addition, we are the group of vocal owners who have driven the mantra "why don't they ask owners". If it were me, and I am not involved in this effort, I would ask local owners, like John, EVEN IF I KNEW.

It's the concept of "emotional enfranchisement".

Guess what....Erik Buell picks up the phone and calls John asking "I've got some serious testing to do on a development project. Limited funds don't allow time to seek out certain types of roads. If I sent you something, can you help out?"

Two things....any Buell owner would jump on that offer. And, any Buell owner, having jumped would be at the 99% level to purchase whatever resulted from the testing, having "participiated" in the development.

Buell stands alone in the effort the factory makes to involve owners, through asking, watching, joining and listening. Some here recall what B.R.A.G. stood for before the attorneys morphed the acoronym.

Put me down firmly in the column of folks CHEERING Buell for at least TRYING. Ask Dyna when the last time Yamaha called asking him for advice on sportbike roads. I'll be he and I are on the same page on thisone.

Just my $0.02 worth.

I'd agree with that Court. Yamaha would just point out Road America: D

Court...I know it was an inaccurate statement. Guess I either failed at communicating the humor intended or your are a tad sensitive.

Regardless, kindly note I did not name a manufacturer. Could have been Fisher or Charlie's Choppers for all I know. LOL Not to mention, Bomber, myself and a number of others know from first hand experience that Buell's excel on the roads we have here.

Just wish I could get my X1 to So Cal and ride the canyons and mountains with my highly Buell critical friends back there. I suspect you know what I mean, eh?

Sorry...my diatribe wasn't directed at you. If you can't get YOUR bike to SoCal hook up with some of the group out there. They have a fabulous group of Buell owners who I'm sure would show you a few of the local roads.

I actually have SOMEWHERE the "unofficial" motorcycle road map that the old group put together at one time.

lean much, smile more and ride safe,
Court

P.S. - I'm feeling less defensive now as I listen to Bela Fleck "Live Art" doing John Lennon's "Oh Darling" and drooling over the press release that Fender put out today.....music has the capacity to calm even the most stirred among us.

: )

Buell
Riders
ADVISORY
Group

I got a call from Erik not long after I purchased my 1995 S-2. The drill was that they were getting a group of owners together to provide the facotyr with feedback on the entire spectrum of experiences with the bike.

It wa a mistake I am quite sure Mr. Buell regrets to this date. Like the elusive perpetual motion machine sicentists have sought after, I've NEVER STOPPED providing feedback!

Fender is touting the 50th Anniversary Strat and some high end rack mounted amplifier equipment.

I NEED a new guitar after giving 3 of mine to my oldest son for some studio work on his last trip to NYC. He and I are alot the same, only he really plays....I spend my life in a 3 chord world!

The upside is that Mandolin Brothers (the most famous guitar store in the world) is a stone's throw from my front door....so I am in the LUST MODE while on pre-marriage moratorium!

Mystery Solved, Thanks.

I'm sure that Eric is more than happy that you still talk to him after sacrificing so many hours and suffered so many saddle sores to the betterment of his product.

As for guitars...

My wife bought me my last axe. A Heritage H-535 that I fell in love with after seeing Steve Howe with Yes on a 335 and Alex Lifeson with Rush on his 355. I went out and tried every semi-hollow that I could find (that's a lot) and this Heritage owned them all, but sadly I decided that I couldn't afford it. So she went to the dealer (friends of ours) and told them to put it on layaway. I got it at christmas and was completely suprised, almost to tears.

H#ll, she found my S3T for me too. I gotta good woman!

As for the Strat, Go Here http://www.suhrguitars.com

John Suhr is a former masterbuilder for the Fender Custom Shop. He built all of Eric Claptons guitars and amps while he was at Fender and has built just about every strat style guitar that Mark Knopfler has used since the mid 80's. John builds the finest "strats" you'll ever play.

Also, "Fender high end rack mount" is an oxymoron. I just want a 60's super reverb to go along with my '62 (Blonde) Bassman. (Of course my main amp is here http://guytron.com By far the finest amp I've ever played but be ready for some SERIOUS cash outlay.)

And the world I live in... I used three chords in a bridge once, of course it was in 17/8 time subdivided by sections of 7/3/4/3. It was a blast to try and clap along to.

Court...

Someday I will get the bike out there. Lived in South Orange County for 30 years and know the roads like the back of my hand from Monterey to Death Valley to San Diego.

Am looking forward to meeting the all the Bueller's out there as I have been reading their posts for a few years now. Weren't too many visible at the Lookout, Palomar, Newcomb's and the Rock Store, when I left five years ago and if there were, they didn't ride the same times as the mainstream sport riders.

I especially want to meet Ferris, Sparky, Timbo and the Ortega Kid. After that, I feel the need to sip some fermented grape juice with BruceLee and get into his politics. LOL The rest of the Bueller's are high on my list but these are the "Must Meets."

Again, my primary purpose is to just ride with my friends that I see yearly and communicate with almost daily and let them discover first hand the error in their ways. Not that any would ever buy a Buell but at least their minds would be opened and vociferous opinions would be much more positive.

These are the guys that coined the line "Now there is the answer to the question that was never asked....and that is when is Harley going to build a sport bike." Now do you understand my desire to rub it in?

Hey, I think I just got permission from the War Department to take three weeks and go. Wow, now all I need is a copy of Frommer's Guide to US Laundromats!

Notice that not everyone got one?

From personal experience with a previous version of this survey. About 18 months back I got one for the Detroit area. I made a quick friendly call about it. Being as since I had already moved from the locale. I wanted to verify what roads they wanted. At that time they were researching the Detroit(SE michigan area).

just a observation on my part....

filled mine out, included some maps (the postage paid mark on the envelop was too tempting, I spose, and wrote on the back (in my very best Chicago-ese), "Can I come with?"

my guess (based on no data from Buell, but on an understanding of the evffort and cost needed to release the presednt XB platform) would be no big new platform development, but some suspension research? or, like Court sez, they already know all this stuff, and asked just to flatter me (grin) -- either way, they asked nicely for my opinion and input (first maufacturere to do so in any meaningful way), so I answered em

This is way too funny. A Fast Boy from Illinois submits maps of Wisconsin Roads to a Wisconsin Company (assumption) that he learned from his bud(s) in Cheeseland. Oy Vey...Next thing you know those roads will become squid infested superslabs!

That's it, I am having a map, address and phone number to Festung Rosberg posted in every Ladies Room in the country under the heading "For a Good Time Dial!" I don't care what it costs. LOL

PS: I know it works. The gal's did it to me with a rubber stamp as a joke on my 30th B-Day. That friggin' stamp was passed all around the country. Was fun until I got married again and didn't think to change the phone number. That woman just had no sense of humor. LMAO
