Lynn was nice enough to take pictures with my camera while I was busy so here her are pictures:   Tom Hooker and I were the two fastest Buells, Reg kept "reminding" us that it was not a top time event, but we were having too much fun going faster than each other on each practice lap. Now, after morning practice, we had to pick our target time and do four laps. After four laps the top 15 had to do 2 more laps, and after those 2 laps the remaining 10 had to do two last laps, all at the same target time that you had picked right after lunch. Easier said than done. The top three finishers  FieryXB did a great job, was the third closest to her target.  I had no business getting this far into the competition, I should have been cut after the second round, but I hit a cone and it actually helped my average! In the final, I missed my target of 46.5 seconds only by 0.06. This is probably my favorite Battletrax picture of all time, Norbert and I leaning for all we're worth, Reg directing traffic. Nice shot Lynn!  Al Lighton on his very trick XB9S was only 0.03 of his target time, very well done! I mentioned that XB12S earlier, the gentleman who owns that bike did something very neat: he installed Ducati Multistrada Saddlebags on his bike. Before we left Uke's I ran into MikeJ and thanked him for finding and sending me those touring footpeg relocators for the S2's that I have on my S3 and give me 1" more ground clearance.  After Battletrax we headed back to Lake Lawn for the final Dinner/Bonfire. Erik joined us and updated us about the Formula Extreme XB's qualifyng efforts and mentioned that they were close to the Superbike times despite having less horsepower while looking and smiling directly at me..... edited by josé_quiñones on June 10, 2004 | ||

Saturday morning we went up to Road America. Linda wanted to ride so she did. I took the truck and put the S3 on the trailer. The ride up there was nice, except I killed a Turkey that decided to cross the road at the wrong time. I could have swerved, but it was the bike or the turkey, so the turkey lost.  | ||

Ummm, that lightning with the bags is...umm different, yea thats the word different. BTW, the one I saw was a much much cleaner install & the bags werent quite as big as those. They looked like a factory job, those in the pic look kinda...different. | ||

BRAG got us a pretty nice spot, right by turn 8 and next to the Supermoto track so we could watch both. Plenty of great food and water also. After the Parade Laps (which were INSANE) we got back to find that Mike Ciccotto and Michael Barnes had arrived and were autographing their 8x10's, shirts, hats, bike fenders, anything people wanted.  After lunch we went into the pits for some spy work:  Jake Zemke's Formula Extreme bike. The swingarm is getting a lot of attention from the AMA because it is apparently not stock as the rules require.   Doug Chandler's 749R's very nice | ||

The Buell's Mike Ciccotto's engine:  The "experimental" 8 (yes EIGHT) piston front brake  A view of the two unequal intake tracts, no Y manifold here.  We also found Kosco's pit (right next to Eric Bostrom's Ducati Pit} and got to hang out there (Thanks Rich!) and got to watch the start of the Superbike race and see some interesting stuff. As you can see from the picture, Kosco is still running the stock forks (revalved) and a Penske shock, while the Hal's bike has Ohlin's suspension all around. Both had the new 8 piston brake.  After having our fill in the paddock, we headed back to the BRAG area and assembled at the turn 8 grandstand to watch the race.  The coolest part about the race was when Mike Ciccotto wheelied in front of us after he saw us waving him on on the Parade and cool down laps, not to mention the awesome save he had right in front of us at turn eight on the seventh lap. He began to slide it looked like he was going down but he somehow kept it going. The stands went from an audible gasp, to silence, then a loud cheer followed by lots of laughter and applause, as gearhead said, a priceless moment. after that we packed up and headed home. It was a great time, we were all there because of a certain brand of motorcycle, but it was the people Linda and I met that made the trip so memorable. that is all. edited by josé_quiñones on June 10, 2004 | ||

Jose in back of the hospitality BRAG building coolice and I were watchng the neww section past turn 10 just before turn 11 Mike Cicotto just about high sided and saved it 5 min. before he almost low sided coming out of turn 8.If you thought the one you seen was a good save you should of seen the one Coolice and I seen.The mans feet were in the air.Almost gave me a heart attack two times in 5 minutes. | ||

Jose, Thanks for posting a picture of me on my S2 (the only S2 not named) doing BattleTrax! My Boss was starting to wonder if I really rode the 3,300 mile round trip like I requested the vacation time for or not...I got some cool pictures from the festivities and of my road trip there and back. If only I could get these nearly 1M pictures compressed enough to post... I have tried the xat stuff and the pictures don't come anywhere close to being small enough. If nothing else, I can E-mail the pictures to myself at work and deal with it from there. 1313 | ||

1313, glad to see you made it there and back in one piece, I was beginning to wonder. We got to get together and put in some miles. I'm also trying to get a few together from our area to ride to VIR on the 27th of June for the Formula USA/CCS races. Game? To everyone else, thanks for this thread. I have to say it's been very enjoyable to read and see how much fun y'all had. It has me really looking forward to Runnin' The Ridge this fall. Thank you all! | ||
