I've got Jury Duty on the third, and can't get out of it. It's probably for the best, though; If I went, I'd probably have too much fun. I'd also have to decide whether to go to the farewell dinner on Friday night, or go to the dirt track races, and that would be a tough choice.

I'll be there with 3 bikes in tow. Unfortunately the Rss is going to be just for show at Hals breakfast. It just blew a fork seal and leaked fluid all over my garage floor!!

The food alone is almost worth the $75 and I'm going to miss one dinner on Wednesday. I am leaving Minneapolis Thursday morning and going straight to Sauk City. I'm going to get free lunch, dinner and dessert Thursday; free breakfast, lunch and dinner Friday and free lunch on Saturday. I'll only have to bring about $20 in cash!

Dave,

I just sent you an email, but I am thinking I should be in Sauk about 12:30. Depends on when I get going Thursday morning, traffic getting out of town, etc.

Any tips on how to get around the Chicago area from Gary Indiana without getting stuck in traffic?

Jose,

Timing and luck are everything in Chicago. My experience (mostly traveling to and from MI) is to hit it between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Traffic may still be heavy but should be moving okay. Are you coming across the Indiana Toll Road? If so, take the Skyway. It is pricey but much quicker, even when it is backed up. Be aware that it is under some major construction.

I'm going to be doing a lot of riding next week.
From Appleton to LG and back on Weds
Appleton to Sauk and then to East Troy on Thurs.
Appleton to Kenosha then to LG and back to Appleton on Friday.
Appleton to Road America on Sat and Sunday.
For as much money as I'm going to be spending on gas, I'm glad they are feeding me!

Ride to the edge!

all semi direct routes from Gary to Chicago are under construction . . . . (including I80, I believe) . . .. . considering dropping south a bit, and picking up a state road for the last 50 miles of Indiana, and then taking it to I-57 or something . . . . ..

that part of the trip is a bear, even without construction

Jose,
I drove that stretch from Iowa to Hanover, PA about two months ago. The best way to go, abeit a little longer, is to take 70 from Western PA to I70, and go north from where ever you can after that, but get as far west of Chicago as possible. I-80 is a mess, two lanes each way for about 30 miles, when it used to be four. I was through there about three months ago for work when they were just starting construction there, and sat for over 4 hours. Avoid that at ALL costs.

Take the skyway, it cost 2 bucks but has less traffic than the other way, and will cut 20-30 minutes ff your trip, take the express lanes if you can, trucks are not allowed on them, if your going dirrectly to Lake lawn, once you get on 90/94 get in the left lane as fast as you can, the right lane will stop, for the western suburbs exit, after that your screwed kinda, but if you hit it at th right time you will be fine, mid day is best, followed by around 3 am, never drive on the expressways after 4am until about 5 am on fri/sat, the 4 am bars get out and those people are really drunk, and generally dont live downtown, which makes it woorse, because they really dont know how to drive on top of being drunk
All this wisdome comes from living in the city for a decade and 1/2, and knowing way to many bartenders
later

Thanks for the tips! I will definetly avoid Chicago itself. For now the plan is 80/94/294/290/53/12 to Lake Lawn, we'll get there eventually on Tuesday.

Just a note to let you know that Hal's has tickets to Road America for sale at $30.00 per day, cash only.

So if any of you are freeloading for the weekend and want to pick up tickets for Saturday at Road America, contact a local buddy or Hal's at www.halshd.com and make arrangements to have them either pick up or hold the tickets for you.

Enjoy!

Hi Dave. I'm here. I haven't been on lately because I have a very sick friend I'm trying to help out.

Yes, Ralph and I are leaving Thursday morning and going directly to Sauk. We will probably be there around 11:00.

AFDX1 - We are you coming back down? You can hook-up with Ralph and me if you like.
