As some may know, I'm currently at Kettering University, formerly GMI, in Flint, MI working on a Mechanical Engineering degree. We've had a ton of cool speakers come through, Bob Lutz of GM fame, many of the Corvette engineers and Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway Human Transporter. I've met all of these guys, and have had a chance to talk with them about their successes in the business world. Too cool. Today we had Jim McCaslin in, the President and COO of Harley Davidson come in as an alumni speaker. I had an opportunity to speak with him for a while at an invite-only luncheon and dessert thing. He is a GMI alum from 1974, and has a tremendous amount of experience in many different industries. He's been in a ton of postitions within GM, Chrysler, Volkswagen, a stint in Italy for Masserati and Case IH, among others. Before becoming president, he was the plant manager of the York Plant. Definitely a very cool guy, lots of advice to give. Now the Buell part... One of the local dealerships sent a few bikes over to display, there was a VRod, 1200 Sporty, a Road King and a Dyna. No Buells. So I took it upon myself to add my Cyclone to the collection for all to see. I think it attracted more attention than most of the HDs, other than the VROD, which had a pretty cool paint job. I spoke with Jim a bit about Buells, he thought they were really unique bikes, and a valued addition to the HD line. I also let him know about the trip I have planned this summer, the Ride Across North America, and he thought it sounded like an awesome time for a good cause. Maybe someday I'll be finding myself working for either Jim or Erik. I wouldn't complain. Here's Jim and I with the Cyclone: edited by awprior on April 20, 2004 |
