i been looking at different bikes this past month an was able to ride a 03"xb9s for the weekend and it had a race kit,and it was the funnest bike i ever rode!so i'm really turned on to the buell and in doing research on it i came across this site and joined it.i would like to hear from all of you on what you like or dislike about your buells?if i buy an xb9r should i buy an extended warranty?i would just like to hear your feedback.thank you very much!!!this is a great site. | ||

I would like to welcome you to the wonderful world of Buell! I have a 00M2cyclone and couldn't be any happier. ALthough there is big differences between the new and older Buells they are both very fun bikes and the newer ones have really came along way with dependibility. If you like attention you will get it on a Buell. Even though my ride is 4years old I still almost daily have someone ask me about so look out! I believe if you do purchase a Buell you will not be unsatisfied. As for the Waranty goes it's a toss up. Make sure you read the fine print because you can void the waranty buy adding aftermarket parts (which you will). Hope that helps a little now go buy that Buell. | ||

Jwz7, I have had my '03 XB9S 'Low' since December and I love it. I got the 9S (lightning) because it is a more upright ride. I also like the looks better, the Firebolt or R version looks to "Alien" to me. I have had no major problems but I only have 1200 miles on mine. Others here you will find have many many more miles. The warranty thing is your call. Some look at it as extra peace of mind, others see a burden because of their local dealer. Cyclonemick is right, aftermarket parts could void your warranty, so be careful whatever your choice. The one thing you will get is perma-grin when you ride so be sure you go full face on the helmet.  | ||

'03 XB9R here - there are some minor things to check out before you take one of these (nothing serious - bearings upgrade, kickstand upgrade, B+ cable), and (now) having ridden both a S and my R I can tell you that they are pretty different beasts. I suggest you go ride a R before you decide to take that over the S. Since the '04s are out and include some upgrades, you can probably find a really good deal on a new '03 with a little looking. As for the warranty, personally I'd say no, unless you plan on leaving the bike stock for quite a while AND they give you a smoking good deal on it. I bought the 4 year on mine because it was a first year bike, and it's been unnecessary over 15,000 miles and two years. The XB series so far is proving extremely reliable, and there are plenty of guys with 20, 25, and even one with 30K on theirs. I love everything about my Firebolt - the looks, the motor, the sound. It really turns heads, usually on the double take since at first glance it's faintly reminiscent of a Jap bike (far more so than the other Buells). I've taken it on some pretty long rides and found the R to be plenty comfy for 500+ mile days (minus the stock seat). Duck's right, the shit-eating grin these things induce might just get stuck. Went over to Harley/Buell of Edison, NJ to test riding a "12S" with a Race Kit and I've got to tell you I'm very impressed. And I'm impressed with the dealership as well. Great sales people, no pressure and offers to return any time to to play some more. No wonder I bought my S1 there back in '98. Excluding reliablity (since the bike wasn't mine), I've got to give it to Erik and the boys/girls. Other than a completely dead feeling rear brake (typical Buell--just replace the rear pads) and a tendency to stand up under braking the bike was an absolute ball to ride. My S1W has much better throttle response (probably due to the Mikuni flatslide), but other than that the XB is light years ahead of the "tuber" in every respect. I was throwing it into corners as fast as I dared and ran the tires right to the edge without any shakes, wobbles or fear. Very nice. I didn't think the clutch was too difficult to pull; certainly no more difficult (maybe a bit lighter actually) than my S1 with a Barnett kit. The front end lifts nicely over cresting roads, crosses up the front wheel and then finds itself nicely when it lands. No drama. Even the springing for my 190lb was right on. Amazing considering that the older Buells were sprung for 100lb riders (or so it always seemed). I even found the riding position to be comfortable. Bars were at the right height and angle (anyone want to tell Yamaha about their wacky angled bars?) and for my inseam (32-34) peg position was nice. Maybe after 500 mile days I may reconsider the peg placement, but other than that--nice! If you've got a dealer who understands Buells and the clients it will bring in, than buying an XB is a nice choice. Damn, that thing was small! I love small. Nice work Erik. Nice work. |
