Ahhhhh.... After a great weekend at Fontana and the long trek back to Phoenix, just wanted to drop a line to say hi to Al Lighton and EBear. Nice to have met you both. Nice pics Jerry! I spent a lot of time in the garage area too, and must say the environment was much more relaxed then in years past. The riders all seemed eager to chat it up and sign autographs, and as you stated, Mr. Mladin is much more personable in living color. For those who didn't make it...it was a great time, for those that did, glad you made home safely! Ed |

Wycked, we shopped the Ontario Mills Mall near the track (one of the largest shopping malls i've ever been in) and managed to find exactly ONE koala bear for sale. my advice would be to plan ahead. thanks for the kudos BnB. we hadn't planned on hangin' in the pit and garage area all day but we were having so much fun we couldn't tear ourselves away. i'm REALLY surprised how lenient the AMA officials were about me wandering around in the hot pits prior to the race. when i took the shot above of the start of the Superbike race i expected somebody to yell at me the whole time, but everyone was cool. sorry we missed you there, maybe next year we'll run into each other at Starbucks? ....hey Jerry, I just realized how much of a "fair weather biker" I've become. I bought my XB9R in September, and, well, living in Phoenix, it hardly ever rains. Saturday at Fontana was the first time my bike had seen rain, and the first time I'd ridden in the rain since 1988 in a 6 hour endurance race at Road Atlanta for the WERA GNF's.....Man...I kinda' miss it! i grew up in the Pacific Northwet and rode year 'round up there for years. i do not miss the rain, not even the tiniest little bit. Blake mentioned above that i'm "looking very Cali" these days. thank you. thank you very much. |

Great posts eric, awesome pics. Mr. White seems like a cool character, someone should turn him on to this board, and show him how to do wheelies on that scooter |

absolutely not! side's, we always got Court to look up to (or whatever direction is appropriate)... as far as AARPVille goes, I've been trying to talk batlemasters into subtracting 2 seconds from the times of any rider who can remember the Johnson administration . .. . so far, no takers |

YAAHHHOOOOO!!!! Just got back from a ROUSING ride helping break in Scott Pages new APRILIA TUONO!!What a great machine that is.We met locally and headed to Glendale to see if they were giving test rides for the backpack deal.Ernie wasnt there so we held off till a weekday. Then Scott,Don Victor,Viros and I went via Topanga to Mulholland drive,Stunt Road,Piuma back to Mulholland to the Rock Store.Hung for a few and headed down the old Mulholland to NEPTUNES on PCH for lunch.....Freshest seafood around.Tons of attention to Dons XB12R and the Tuono. Then left Scott in Venice and headed off to Southern California Triumph to visit with Eric Bostrum. Unfortunately he skated just before we got there but we kicked tires on all the Ducks and got them to promise to give us Test rides on the 999 next week. }HERES A CRASH SCENE FROM SUNDAY.... Sorry it not so good Im just getting used to this new Elan 7E.It looks at your eye and figures out where in the scene your looking and focuses right there. Its faster than i am so Im not so good yet... Heres Miguel DuHamel and Jake Zemke, tearing it up!} |

I truly believe that Mat Maladin plays head games with his competitors just like Doohan did. Complaining all off-season about how the smaller throttle bodies have lost him so much horsepower and the such. I don't see the lost horsepower. I wonder how he'd do in MotoGP? But as a human I believe Mat to be a very warm-hearted person. Look at his smile in the picture above. I think he's really enjoying life right now. Dean Adams at SuperbikePlanet.com has often mentioned who Maladin truly is. The rest of the Superbike class is in trouble. With the exception of Yates (due to equal equipment and desire for his 1st Title) and Eric Bostrom (who is very hungry for a Championship after last year), I don't think there's another rider out there who can consistantly run with Maladin, race in race out. I enjoy watching Maladin race. The man goes 110% for 100% of the race. This is why we enjoy Rossi. I'll never forget the Austrialian GP last year when Rossi set the fastest lap of the race on the last lap! So much for running out of tire. |
