They just passed a Super Speeder law here in GA.
Any speed over 85mph gets you locked up, your vehicle locked up, and a very nasty fine.
Also even if your not over 85mph, if you're 15mph over the posted speed limit, you and your vehicle gets locked up, with a nasty (though not as nasty as the Super Speeder) fine.
$470 seems pretty tame to GA standards.

Ops, I've been reminded, the Super Speeder gets you license taken away instantly.
Don't know how long though.

Fortunately for those of us living in New York State, if you get caught speeding out of state and pay the fine promptly, it doesn't go on your record, and it never gets reported to your insurance company.

I LOVE traveling out of state!!

Thanks for the info Glitch, I'll be more careful with my speeding through GA... I just don't like it when I have to unplug my detector through VA.

It was my own fault riding a new canyon and went back a different way than usual in a different county!

Having a radar detector on in Virginia is against the law.

But so is speeding........

GA super speeder will not take affect unitl Jan 1 2010. It is only an increased fine of 200 bones for 75mph on a 2 lane or 85mph on a multi lane, Nothing more than revenue.

Sunday morning, Memorial Day weekend this year a nice State Trooper here in New York
let me slide on a 96/55 exercise.

It was a Nice flat, straight section with no houses and He was coming at me.
I didn't see Him. He flips on the lights.
I hit the brakes so hard I was pulled over
before He could even Stop to turn around.
In fact I had stopped so Quick that when He K-turned He had to back up to park behind Me.
I shut off the S1, put the Key on the seat, pulled out wallet & laid all relevant paperwork beside the Keys,
put Helmet on the ground and waited for upcoming developments.

First He thanked Me for not Running and I said I'm to old for that Shit. He asked me what I was doing
and I told Him straight, "just out raising a little Hell" .
Honesty works most places, except Divorce Court.
When He was done sweating me, all that he said was slow the "f" down.
That was followed by a Hearty handshake on my part.

Ute Pass going into Colorado Springs, Spring of 1978.
77 in a 45.
Went to jail but the trooper let me follow him in my car, Opel GT. Took a few hours for my friends to gather funds to bail me out and I saw enough that I haven't visited jail since.

The clerk of the District Court heard my tale and told me to wait one extra day so I could have Judge X preside.

$24 fine and warning to be careful.

Turns out the clerk of the court was the mother in-law of my Hays, KS pastor.

Whoo Hoo, no points and enough money to get home to Kansas.

I got popped for 82 in a 55 last weekend. The kicker is that I was 500 miles from home, and >25 over the limit requires a court appearance in that particular county.

The whole deal was pretty unlucky on my part.. he just happened to catch me coming out of a good corner. On a straight stretch I would have been back down to the posted speed limit

Phil....that sucks. I can only imagine the counseling statements and paper work your chain of command is going to do... unless you folk don't do any formal counseling in your branch?

I always get the mental image of me being caught red handed like that... and when the officer pulls up, I scream and in the best Montey Python fashion I can pull off "Run Away" into the woodline like a lunatic. I'd probably get shot or electrified first though.

paperwork? no thanks.

I'll be calling and pleading with with prosecuting attorney from that county in the near future - hopefully will get off by paying a fine and skipping the courtroom BS. If that doesn't work then I'll route leave and go "visit family" for a couple days.

BTW 25 over is only $208 .. I've yet to find out what 27 over will be. 27 over in Oklahoma would have been somewhere in the neighborhood of $400, BUT it seems to me like OK LEO's give anyone wearing a helmet a lot of slack. OMW back from homecoming I met a Sherrif while doing 90 in a 55. He flashed his lights for a second and kept on going.

you guys are making me glad i live in montana.

how much_____how fast over limit
$ 20_________1 - 10 (daytime)
20___________1 - 10 (nighttime)
40___________11 - 20
70___________21 - 30
100__________31 - not sure

the $20 fines are payable on the spot and
anything 10 over or less cannot be reported to your insurance and the ins company can't use it to raise rates. and since pretty much all two lane highways out of town are 70 mph, it's easy to go fast.

but i do miss the days of no actual speed limit and $5 'fuel conservation violation' tickets.

Man I need to move...
Oregon is a $1000.00 MINIMUM fine and 30 Day suspension of license MINIMUM for anything in triple digits.

Track days are WAY cheaper...

We have to thank all the squid street racers and street stunters for those nice little laws...there is a bridge in Tampa called the Gandy Bridge...there used to be so many crashes at night from street racing, the EMT's would park meat wagons on both ends of the bridge for quick response.

Couple of years ago...a guy on a turbo 'busa stuffed it head on into a semi truck when he lost control and crossed lanes...they figure he was running about 210...he got cleaned off the road with a fire hose.
