And no, I'm not talking about the Blast. Sad to say that the original Port Matilda Clem's BBQ has closed for good.
2008 Res Ride pic While the new location is only 4 miles from me, instead of 26 miles, things just won't be the same. Currently they are only open Fri-Sun. I'll miss my "lunch rides" that I used to clear my head for an hour (yeah right ) or so. Some of the benefits that I'll need to get used to are: The ability to actually sit down and eat, instead of sitting on a cement block or standing next to an old wine barrel. French fries, onion rings and assorted other side dishes Flushing toilets TV's on the wall Fountain soda, instead of a vending machine. Air conditioning Wonder if I ask them to bring the barrels up from the old location if they would???? |

Toona, I'm sorry to hear about the Port Matilda Clem's closing. I always tried to stop for BBQ when I have work to do at Penn State. I always kind of liked the rustic atmosphere. |

Even though I've only been there twice, this breaks my heart. But I'm sure the new location will have some good food as well. Besides, it's more about the company, and the ride there than it is about the flushing toilets and air conditioning for me. I'll have to check out the new one soon. |

Dontcha hate it when good times end and you didn't actually realise how good they were till they ended. So it always seems to go, you don't know what you've got till it's gone. I do wheelies in a big ol' parking lot. |

Dontcha hate it when good times end and you didn't actually realize how good they were till they ended. I knew the end was coming. Another great, small, literally "hole in the wall" kinda restaurant gives way to a 4 lane interstate. The new digs will take some getting used to, but at least the great BBQ is still around. |

It just won't be the same. Flush toilets - Oh the humanity. |

I just remembered last night that I can run the same route, just a little farther (like that is going to stop me) to Five Guys Burgers in State College. Maybe there is still hope for some "lunch runs" in the future! And yes, still stop for a gob on the way back for those of you wondering what a gob is, I don't know if this is a regional thing or not, think 2 small chocolate cakes about 3" in diameter with about 1/2" of pure sugar white icing in between that will find any minuscule cavity you might have in your teeth and burn a hole right thru it. YUMMY! You can also get them stuffed with peanut butter icing as well, but be forewarned, you will go around with your tongue stuck to the roof of your mouth the rest of the day. |
