Just bought my Son his first car. I think I did well. I hope it last for him with little trouble. Its a 99 Mercury Sable. Semi loaded. Tires,exhaust,brakes,etc are in good shape. The body is pretty good... just normal ware and tear. It has 78,000 miles and I have most service records. Has a V6 in it. Seems alittle under powered but not to bad. Picked up for $3,500. Tax and registered.  | ||

My 2nd car was an '86 Mercury Grand Marquis and I liked it. 186k miles, no problems to speak of, and I only paid $200 for it. I got rid of it fast and found myself a 4cyl mazda due to appeal of twice the fuel mileage, but it was good reliable transportation. | ||

Damm, dad! My first car was a '73 Super Beetle. A Mercury Sable is quite the mackin' first car, provided it gets: Fancy hubcaps Tinted windows A little lower to the ground (Don't compromise ride comfort or handling) Proper sound system, not to interfere with operation of vehicle. (Jam at the picnic pulloff by the lake, not on the road.) Any extra po po Crown Vic search lights (black chrome) would be bonus. | ||

Had a Merc Cougar XR7. That thing was hopped up! Loved it. I'll have to scan the pics of it but she looked like this..  I loved that car! | ||

those Marauder's lol, talk about a selling gimmick! lets take a regular merk, then paint it black and put a new name on it, lol. they fall very short on the performance curve that they are supposed to. the only thing they are marauding is long lines at cracker barrel. | ||

The Marauder offers a bit more than different paint and a name. Three hundred horsepower and some decent suspension pieces, rear wheel drive with a limited slip differential and mid 7 second 0-60 times makes it more than " the only thing they are marauding is long lines at cracker barrel" | ||

Mercury fan? Yeah, I like playing with the liquid metal substance out of thermostat switches. I don't recommend handling it bare handed, breathing it, or drinking it though. Back in the late fifties early sixties they use to cheat on race car weights with it. Put mercury in the frame rails to meet weight, pull a plug let it run out during a race(before they knew or cared about it's nasty traits), plug it and refill it at the end of the race to again make weight. I worked for a Lincoln Mercury dealer for a couple of years or so. Repaired a lot of the above mentioned cars. I never liked them enough to own them though. For a first car for the kid, he 'otta be happy. There are a lot of working family folks who would be happy to have that nice of a vehicle. | ||

we got jenn a one owner(from a 93 yr old family friend) 96 grand marquis last year. the thing is in very good shape. could not turn it down for the price. if she didnt buy it i was going to even though i had no need for it. V8 rear wheel drive 6 passenger tank,(i mean it is a crown vic with some different badging. i say some because alot of parts still say ford on them) that still managed 23mpg on its last fill up with me driving it for most of that. you know how easy i am on the gas... plus it could easily pull the bikes to the track and such if i put a hitch on it. gets alot better mileage then my tahoe thats for sure. i think they make some pretty good products. i still wish it was a caprice though...! | ||

I hope its a good car. I test drove several cars the last couple week's. For what I payed for that Sable other's in the same price range other car's were real junk. Not easy buying a cheap good car these days. I've bought new now for 17 years... this was a new experience for sure. | ||

I had a 92 Cougar with the 3.8. Of course the head gaskets went, but it really was a kinda fun and suprisingly spunky car. Of course being in WI, i learned that cougars REALLY hate snow. | ||

I have an 1985 Merc Capri that was good enough to beat 85 'Vettes and '86 Nationals (everyone stock). Went on to modify it for SCCA competition (street prepared) and did quit well in the Fort Wayne Region. Loved it! When the weather is poor, I drive my Wife's '89 Merc Cougar XR-7 with 3.8L supercharged and 5-speed. 150k miles, original head gaskets, and I occasionally surprise an unsuspecting sole or two. Nice cars and they are making them without Obama-aid like GM and Chrylser/Fiat. | ||

Is that mechanically the same as the Ford Taurus? I had a '99 Taurus that I bought almost new and kept for a few years. Then I sold it to a friend who's wife still has it as a daily driver. In the last 10 years all it needed was brakes, tires, and struts. As for window tinting in Wisconsin? That black car with some tint will look PIMP! Just don't go more than 50% on the front sides and 35% on the rear side and back windows and you're fine. Ask me how I know and I will even tell you the story! It sucks to take off your fresh new front window tint with a razor blade before the LEO will let you drive off without a ticket (actually very cool of him).
