Just picked up a 2004 Jennings Trophy Master bow for a good price. Just need to get some sticks and a target to put them in and I will see how it goes. I went to the local shop and about crapped myself when I saw the current prices.... This could end up next to my treadmill... so I didn't want to spend a bunch on it.
I hope I don't choke when I go to by some arrows.... |

haven't shot mine in years either. i have a high country royal hunter. noisy as hell, but accurate. but modern bows with 80% let off kinda take some of the challenge out of it. |

I'm not a hunter(yet), but I do enjoy archery as target practice. I have had one compound bow with release, pin and peep sights, and two recurves. I too don't shoot enough, because there are so many other fascinating pastimes and only one life to enjoy them all in. But I can shoot. Compound bow vs. recurve is kind of like comparing motorcycle vs. bicycle. They're both awesome, just different. There is something uniquely satisfyingly about imparting your own energy into a deadly strike. Have a great time! |

So true! Deer may look dumb but that's just a disguise! They tend to outsmart me more often than the other way around. Then add into the equation that with archery you will usually need to be within about 20 yards of a live animal that has better eyesight, 1000 times better sense of smell than a bloodhound and an uncanny "6th Sense" that we just no longer have (if we ever did?) It is tough. But the challenge is what excites me about it. Of course, every once in a while you do find a deer that is really "not that smart" and it makes it seem easy. Then it's back to reality. Bowhunting is one of the things in my life that "makes me feel alive" Plus, they taste sooooooo gooooood! |

Two seasons ago(my first bowhunting) I was lucky enough to loose 3 arrows at deer. I missed at twenty, twenty-five, and ten yards. Actually, the twenty-five shot I hit a tree. Now, I practice year-round. My hope is to use the bow most of the season, breaking out the muzzleloader only if I "need" to. I am using a Parker Legend EZ-draw. Made in Virginia(my new home state!) it isn't fast but it is smooth and quiet. My 31" arrow length should have enough energy to punch through anything I'm fortunate enough to hit. Except tree's, I know it won't go through tree's. NUTS |

HDbob, I still remember my first archery deer, about 20 years ago, like it was yesterday. Took me 4 seasons to get my first. From that moment, I was hopelessly hooked. I haven't kept track but the number is now probably about 50 or so archery kills on whitetails. Only 2 1/2 months to go before I can hit the woods again! Already have the trail camera out and waiting for another one to come in so I can run 2 this year. I have a new property to hunt where the owner, a friend of mine wants to thin the doe population by about 20 animals. He knows how much I love to shoot doe so he has elected me as the chief of population control. I can't wait! I plan to whack em and stack em! Nuts, I too, practice all year long. That's the only way I can stay deadly. I still blow a shot occasionally but not very often. I just set up what will be this year's hunting rig. A new Mathews MONSTER. It is smokin fast and I shoot it "lights out". For a speed bow it sure shoots great. One of the perks of owning a bow shop, I get to shoot the latest and greatest from the 6 brands I carry. This year it will be a Mathews. Jon, that is still my best buck ever! I am hoping to top it this year. Been glassing a couple pretty nice ones I am going after once October finally gets here. |

Andy Yes, still using the Enigma Camo on almost all my hunts. It just confuses the deer. Too bad no one will buy it! I guess it is more important to look cool ( Mossy Oak, Real Tree etc) than to actually hide from the animal you are hunting? Wolf, Package is headed your way today! |

Killer buck Dave. If you need more help thinning the does, I'll drive to Wisconsin to help out. Seriously, just let me know. I'm a meat hunter and more than happy to take a doe. Set my 50 yard pin the other day. RaymondT shoots 60 and 70 regularly, too far for me. We shoot Hoyts that are from his uncle, a Hoyt Senior Pro sponsored shooter. Ray shoots second hand, and I got his last one third hand after he shot it a couple of years. The Matthews bows are so damn cool with the vibration dampeners, and light weight. I'd be happy to shoot hand-me-down Matthews any day. |
