I know this is the wrong forum, but does anyone know, or know where to find out when the 2010 R1's will start shipping. I'm looking into getting one to have something else to ride along with my 05 XB12Scg.

Thanks all!

Not sure about ship dates, but what is so different from the 09's?

I've always been reluctant to buy the first year of a new model of anything, especially when it comes to vehicles! Always a good idea to give the manufacturer a year to fix the bugs before they put out next year's model.

Also, there has been rumors of the 2010 R1 having electronic suspension!!!

Since your post was admittedly off topic, may I take the liberty of wondering why you have settled on the R1?

I love the way they sound, but in both of the comparison tests I have read in Sport Rider and Road Racing World, the Yamaha has come in last.

jon, I have read the same. For the new I4 I would go cbr1000rr. Not the best looking of the bunch but they say they are a good machine.

Not to be a pessimist, but what makes you think they are changing anything.

IMHO
The new R1 sounds great but its a pig @ 450ish dry!

Who knows, maybe they won't change anything at all, we will have to wait and see won't we. And it's 454 lb wet, which isn't much more than a Buell. And there is plenty of weight to be shed off the new R1's.

And I haven't settled on an R1, I just LOVE they way they sound. And since I'm not going to squeeze every ounce of performance out of it, I don't really mind if it didn't place 1st in comparison tests. Especially since it was them testing it and not me. What they look for in a bike isn't the same as what I look for.

I rode a friends 2007 R1 for a few hours. There is a lot to like about it. Very smooth, great brakes,
Lots of power. The things I didn’t like about it, all that power is so high up in the power band it
seemed almost impossible to use without really going nuts on it. I found myself having to stay on it just to keep it in it’s power band, which to me made it harder to drive fast. Also below 4500 rpm it couldn’t pull an old lady out of a rocking chair. I like my power where it is easy to reach.

This is the reason why they say the R6 is one of the finest street bikes around and why its a better street bike than the R1.

I heard a piped '09 R1 and I have to say it sounded REALLY good. I was waiting for the kid to start it up because I was curious if that new fangled crank was detectible in the tone of the engine and it REALLY is. The bike sounded really good.

I heard that bike I decided right then I would be putting a pipe on the 1125, lol.

Can't answer any of your questions, but they DO sound nice.

When you hear them being raced, they sound more like a twin than a 4-cylinder with their changed firing order.

Steve - that was the same impression I got with this guy just pulling out of the parking spot - almost ducati-ish.

Yes, when you hear it it's hard to believe it's an inline 4. When you get it spinning up though then it begins to sound more like an inline 4, but still has that Ducati growl to it.

Apparently the new engine design is meant to offer more power down low. However, Yamaha's definition of "low" is going to be much different than Buell's.

Thats the new crossplane crank isn't it? It's supposed to give a huge increase in low end.

It IS the cross-plane crank.

Not so much an increase in bottom end as would show on the dyno but there is a better "recovery" between power pulses, helping the tire maintain better contact.

(at least that's how I understand it - my opinion worth exactly half of what you paid for it)
