I don't know if it's illegal, but I would be worried about drivers target fixating on it and wiping me out. In my opinion, conspicuity is a good thing, but too much is, well, too much. I almost took out a guy on a Goldwing while driving my truck one night. He had so many reflectors all over his helmet and bike, it actually was a distraction, and I found myself drifting towards him. Those lights might be too bright to be really effective.
Check your state safety inspection regulations. In Virginia any white light shown while the from the tail light while the brakes are depressed is caused for failure. cracked lens for reference. i would only assume a separate light that was white while braking would also be illegal. Additional lights of the proper color I assume would be legal.
In any state, flashing lights, aside from turn signals, are for emergency vehicles only.
Lights on the front can only be white or amber, lights on the back can only be red or amber (and white for reverse lights).
You have an illegally colored flashing light, so, no, it's nowhere near being legal.
I also think it would be more a distraction than anything else. If someone is on my ass, a quick jam on the brake pedal always seems to do the trick just fine.
>>>Strobes like that are not legal on the roadway and will surely get unwanted attention from the police.
Correct. I've been nailed twice in my truck since 1997.
I ended up using the TIR3 on the Ulysses, buy have opted for the solid pattern rather than any of the host of various strobe patterns. Why tempt the same folks I see towing bikes daily. My cousin just got his bike towed on the FDR Drive for a 2 day past due inspection sticker (12 month old KTM).
The cops just pile them on a flatbed like frickin' cord wood and pile'em up.
Tough luck.
I do have the handlebar switch from the Law Enforcement Uly that is under consideration to give me the ability to change patterns on the fly. Undecided.
Why not just get a headlight modulator and a "back off" brake light flasher? They are legal in all 50 states. The modulator is not a strobe - it just modulates one lamp (makes it go bright/dim/bright in a very fast cycle). And the back-off flashes the brakes 3 or 4 times as soon as you hit the brakes, then goes to solid.
