Hello I have been visiting your site for a few weeks now and recently became a member. I wanted to say hello and congratulate you all on an excellent site. I particularly appreciate how many of you all have volunteered your services for the BRAN, very impressive to see! I hope I'll be able to add something of value to the site. I joined the site because I have gotten the Buell fever, and can't wait to get my hands on one! I have been researching models for some time now and have made a choice, I am however going to wait to make the purchase till after the dealer show, just because it is so close. I have my heart set on an 09 XB12Ss. I have been a large Vtwin/heavy cruiser rider since my first goldwing when I was 16, (now 35), but I test rode a friends new (to him) Buell back in December and I haven't been able to think about another bike since, I am a Marine Engineer, and spend alot of my time at sea and in remote locations so I haven't been able to get one untill now (I am back in North America!!), and I am completely excited. My aim is to create a muscle/tourer from a Lightning Long, Once I get the dimensions from the bike I want to fab a custom seat frame. One that matches the lines of the bike, but has ample room for 2 up. I imagine a curved welded aluminum affair, all one peice that rises up to a medium sized sissy bar at the tail. My girlfriend is a really great gal, and loves riding with me, but I know she doesn't feel comfortable on the back of the XB12's stock seat. My hope is that if I make the seat out a light metal, the bike will still have the exhilerating feel it does with the stock seat for when I am alone, but can still make a great bike for weekend trips together with my girl. Does anyone have any practical experience with this sort of mod? Another option is fixing a uly seat to the XB12, has anyone ever seen this tried? Would appreciate any comments on the above, and once again accept my compliments on a great site!! Stacen |

I think the Uly seat will bolt up to a Ss (long) but not a standard S. |

Yup, here is my XB12SS. Long story short, its not 100% bolt on, there is wiring differences, and you will need to replace a lot of parts, depending on how extreme you want to go. You are better off buying a XB12X or XT in the first place. |

thanks, the pic gives me a great idea of how the bike handles the extra seat length. nice bike froggy, I am digging it... I want to keep the bike street fighter mean on the front end, and not move towards the Uly look with the windshield and mud guard, so the Uly seat could be a real option, maybe as a platform to start from, modding it like you have done. Your bike does look sweet bro!! Has anyone ever photoshopped a Uly seat onto a Ss? |

First.... welcome to Badweb... second... IMHO, I think it would be way easier to put the Lightning flyscreen & front module on a XT... just a thought.. plus ya get heated grips! |

+1 to what Wolf said. Going from a Uly front to Lightning front can be done in 1 beer. You just need the two flyscreen brackets, and whatever color flyscreen you want. Take a look at my pictures here, watch them in reverse order for how to go from a Uly setup to Lightning. (Message edited by froggy on July 09, 2009) |
