What happens when you mix a motorcycle on a highway, and a multi-ton Dump truck... a dangerous chicken match... then add a passenger to the bike and you got a really bad situation..  notice the helmet in the grill.. not good...  | ||

Holy sh!t!!!! How fast do need to be traveling to make that big of a dent in the fender of that truck. Not to mention wedging the helmet in the guard. I'm glad (sort of) that I ate lunch before viewing those pics. Now I think I'll go vomit. | ||

That warning is a little ambiguous. Porn can be thought of as "nasty"..... "Faces of death" pics need a more specific warning, like: "Warning: Graphic Pictures of Death and Dismemberment." Are these typed of pics allowed on BadWeb? Oh. I don't have a problem with those types of pics if I'm ready for them. They just took me by surprise. | ||

I beleive Blackbelt can click ont eh little "Edit" icon and change the subject line. A recommendation would be "Graphic Accident Pics" or something along those lines. They didn't bother me at all even though I was eating chorizo and eggs when I opened the thread. Working in a morgue will do that to you though. | ||

If you think the pictures are nasty you should see fatals in person. I've worked three in the past seven days. You get used to it after the first few. No motorcycles yet this year but riding season is just getting started. Every motorcycle fatal I have worked has been alcohol related. Sometimes Karma catches up and really socks it to ya. Joel | ||

I think as a warning the pics of the helmet imbedded in the grill could go on top with a warning that the bodies were posted below and a few lines of space to help the wary avoid it. Still, defitely something that any squid should be required to look at. | ||

According to other sources on the web, this tragic accident took place in Mexico...We had an accident here last fall in which a duc being ridden two up impacted the side of a car crossing the road at an intersection just over the crest of a hill...The impact rolled the car...The elderly woman driver and, of course, the couple on the motorcycle did not survive and the driver of the motorcycle's head was found still in his helmet hundreds of feet from the crash site...Estimates as to the speed of the motorcycle were in excess of 120 mph...At night!...We had over forty motorcycle fatalities just in and around St Louis in 2003 so we're hoping not to repeat that this year...There is a reason to keep copies of all of David Hough's books close by and review them often...I'm sure any other BMW MOA members out there would agree that membership in that club is worth the cost simply to read David's monthly article... I can't imagine dealing with these kind of accidents on an almost daily basis as do cops, firemen and emt's...You guys and gals are the best... Still, after seeing the above and being reminded of the possible consequences of doing what we all have such a passion for, I still cannot imagine my life without motorcycling... Ride Safe! Bob | ||

WTF? I was just checking buses at Harris, MI. One of the drivers from Appleton, WI, said there was a fatal last weekend during the melt off. Please ride safe. I'm an aircraft firefighter so I see pix like these all the time. It was hard for me to understand some of your aghast reactions at first, but then again, I've been "conditioned", if that's the right word, to seeing this so that I can carry out my job. Whether you're squeemish or not, I believe it's good to view the dead. Every time I'm about to do something stupid on my motorcycle, I think of the bodies I've seen torn apart and it tames me. Charlie, i wasn't aghast, but also not my favorite thing to see, especially with the original thread title doing a piss-poor job of conveying what was about to load up on my monitor. furthermore, i don't need to see dismembered bodies, from 47 different angles, to remind me to ride to live. i still haven't gotten an answer to my question: why were these pix posted? In my "opinion", there are some that are drawn to gore (i.e. rotten.com, yes, I visit that site), and there are some that benefit from gruesome reminders. Both groups most likely being represented on this site. In the first case, some would argue that this is a perfectly healthy aspect of the human psyche; others would call us sickos. Whether you're the former or the latter, I feel these pictures, while tragic, do benefit those who don't think of the consequences, as Dullorb mentioned. | ||

I realize that nobody wants to relive bad memories so I won't be specific; but seeing accidents, for me, has been the greatest motivator of all to ride to live. Afterall, if I don't learn from others mistakes, no good has come of their situation at all. Charles | ||

I'll bet the majority of people reading these forums don't want to see dismembered bodies. Motorcyclists know the risks. People die in cars too. What's next, fatal car crashes? Plane wrecks? What a load of crap. | ||

Its simple, each person who looks at these photos gets a reaction, and in a way that reaction defines us. Some people can look at those photos because they work in a related industry and are seasoned, and I understand that. I, personaly, viewed the photos once and cannot do it again, and really can't comprehend how people could want to go out of their way to see this sort of subject matter. Sickos? In my opinion thats putting it mildly. | ||

um... there are no faces in those photos guys... maybe put in the title "decapitated heads and dismembered bodies" personally I am really sorry I looked at them in the first place because I had a very close friend die in a similar way and I felt like throwing up the rest of the day... just reading the comments, not looking at the photos again... my two cents... Its a grim reminder of what can go terribly wrong!!!! It will not deter me from riding. Being safe is your number one priority and we are all of guilty of riding a little more spirtited at times but something like that really makes you think hard about stupid decisions. I just hope someone who is not a rider but considering does not see them. Would definately turn me off if I did not know what to expect and the risk we accept as motorcycle riders. Looking at those pictures it wouldn't have mattered if it was a bike or a car, the end result would have been the same. The unfortunate thing is that it appears the bike was on the wrong side of the road at the point of impact. I would think the person was passing a line of traffic and ran out of room. I hope I never have to witness that kind of totally avoidable accident. Its a little too graphic but its also a public BBS and obviously the moderators have decided to leave the posting up to the members (within reason). I can only recall one instance where a thread was removed by a moderator and I had to totally agree with it. Just my thoughts. | ||

Charlotte, thanks for your thoughts. i, too, was disturbed by the pix. i originally looked at the first two, and haven't looked at ANY of them since. what i HAVE done is monitor the responses to these pix, and the majority seem to express that the pix have been positive for them, i.e. a reminder of what can happen if you don't ride to live, and Newf this is why this thread is still alive. myself, i don't need to see stuff like this to know the obvious, but apparently some do. the only previous modification i'd made to this thread was re-naming it slightly to better reflect what the unwary viewer was about to see. Charlotte, per you suggestion i have altered the thread title again, and i apologize that you weren't adequately prepared. my intent isn't to censor, but the subject matter dictates that everyone get's a fair chance to decide whether or not they want to enter the thread. Tx and Jason, my thoughts are pretty similar to yours in several respects, and i STILL haven't gotten an answer to my question: why were these pix posted? FB | ||
