After sharing a trackday with some vintage racers last weekend I have got a strong urge to do it myself. With a freshening up of my little Triumph 500 chopper motor all I'll need is a chassis. About 15 minutes on the phone and I had a donor front frame section, a donor rear frame section and a cerianni front end. All I have to do is buy a couple of aluminum hoops and have my friends at TT-cycles lace'm up and I'm there. (Message edited by skinstains on June 20, 2009) | ||

Tempted to do it with the CB750 cafe I just finished (just posted pics of it ..) .. especially considering I am nowhere close to putting the bike that was supposed to be my track bike back together for lack of funds for a crank ... | ||

AHRMA is finally getting over their "boardroom controversies" - but their racing is a totally awesome thing to watch (it's a national series) Virtually every racing organization has vintage classes - usually just lightweight and heavyweight separated at 500cc. Vintage lightweights are usually not too heavily competed... so check the organizations that race in your area. How cool would that be to have a podium finish in your first season of racing??? (Here at Willow Springs, the Vintage lightweight class usually has 3 entries.... MAYBE 4) | ||

Vintage racing would be kick. It is good to some enthusiasm here, I think it has always been here, I have been looking some old and simple, a Bultaco Meterala or Mecurio, maybe Montessa of the same vintage. After the build is done a lot of fun to be had. | ||

The guys I was talking to were WERA racers. I knew AHRMA was dedicated to it but had no idea WERA did it too. There was 7 or 8 bikes at NJMP when I was there. A 500 (real)Manx, two Triumph Tridents, a Seeley Norton, Honda's ranging from 350 to 500/550's, and even a TZ 750. I'm gonna try the 500 Triumph this year and if it's fun enough (how could it not be ?) i will build my 63 750 Atlas up over the winter for next years high speed debauchery. Prof. I just checked your bio and noticed that you are on the edge of being a relic racer  All in jest my friend, all in jest. I went to the local Guzzi shop the other day to look at the V7 didn't have one, they did have a Nevada, Liked it,could actually put my feet flat on the pavement. The shop name is Ton UP cool t shirt, the logo is much like the Ton Up shirt that Ace in London uses. Getting back on subject, a CB350 would be a kick also. Easy to convert, take a bunch of plastic off, club man bars some some good tires, read the local rules, make some mods to make race legal (does the drain plug really have to be safety wired?, no flames please). | ||

hey skinstains cool , how'd you just happen upon a ceriani front end , they go for $1500 + on ebay in even usable condition . restoring a 500 flat tracker now myself . any questions please feel free to give me a shout . just rebuilt my ceriani's if you want info check out http://www.britbike.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb= postlist&Board=28&page=1 while there look for phantom309 he races a triumph 500 in a serious way . Woody1911a1, My friends own a Triumph only shop here in Jersey. Most of the work is period correctish choppers. The minute I mentioned having my little 500 pull double duty as a racer and chopper both of them stopped what they were doing and started the mental inventory. The Cerianni has been in hiding waiting for a worthy project, and I guess I'm it. You should take a look at their site. It's (TT-cycles.net). The guy I met who was running the 500 said he get's 54 ponies at the wheel, noice. So you said Ceriannies as in more than one huh ? | ||

I'm a vintage racer!  Vintage 1940. Here I am practicing about fifty years ago on my Ducati 200 Elite. At that time, the track day had not been invented, so privateers built their own race bikes, acted as their own race mechanics, and tested and practiced on the public roads. Fortunately, the bicycles were not very fast:-).  | ||

AHRMA races 2 weekends ago at Road America were fun to watch and yes there was 2 Buells there. XB12R and 1125R both owned by Wes. The class structure seems to allow some openness to newer bikes in certain classes. There were also newer Ducatis, Triumphs, Hondas. Lots of old cool bikes including one very special one. Apparently they only made 4 of these Vincents to race the Isle of Man TT. One was out racing and tearing it up. The track not the bike.  | ||

Bcordb3 (Bill), AHRMA has a CB360 class formed for EXACTLY your reasoning. Cheap! Friend of mine - Hurley Wilvert was instrumental in getting it rolling in New Mexico... BUT the complaint is that you get weenies with money OVERspending on trick internals and goodies and ending up with $500 motorcycles with $10K invested. They are talking about rule re-writing or instituting a claiming rule. Kinda takes the fun out of it. | ||

there is a class for the Buells to fit in AHRMA. Sound of Thunder and Battle of Twins. the other classes are also a hoot. i have a couple of friends racing honda 350's with AHRMA. the last race of the year is at Barber in OCT. i'll be bringing 2 Buells to race. i think Shred(Michael Buffington) is planning to run his Duc also. Maybe Laird(Paint Shaker) will be able to make it. come on down!! tim | ||
