After riding with xb1200rick, I noticed that my front tire and his front tire had different wear patterns. I have a small chicken strip on my tire but Rick seems to be using all of his tread. Other than the fact that he is fast, is this due to riding style (late braking, body positioning, etc.)or could it be tire profile? He runs Bridgestones and I have Pirellis. I haven't been to the track so this is just a general question for anyone with an educated guess. We both use all of the rear tire. | ||

I've been told that the front chicken strip shows how hard you dive into a corner, and that the rear chicken strip shows how hard you drive out of a corner. My rear tire is worn nearly to the sidewalls, but the front has probably 3/4" | ||

It will depend on many factors including tire pressure, suspension setup, road conditions, how much you lean, and how much you brake and accelerate. Oh, and being a totally different tire can change things too  | ||

Living in Oklahoma, the right side of my tires is wearing faster than the left. There are no curves in the roads - only the occasional clover leaf that I miss my turn on.  | ||

i also noticed a diff in chicken strips on mine and a buddy's. i was riding just 0.2 sec behind him and i was maxed out my shinkos, but he still had a bit left on the stock pirellis.  we both have 120/70 and 18/55, but different manufacturers => diff molds => diff profiles i guess | ||

I can't wear my strips off no matter what tire I have on. Then again I ride on the street. | ||

Seems we're all on a similar thought pattern here. Froggy added a lot of things I hadn't thought of. Also, Rick commented that sometimes when I am leading he runs in on me going into a turn. I have been thinking about this ever since I noticed my cousins 77' BMW doing the same thing. I figured that He was also braking late trying to keep up. BTW, my cousin is very fast and can keep up with most squids who are on much faster bikes. Sometimes the old guys really are fast. | ||

Eaton, I think it might be like pkforbes said . When you were leading , we braked sooner than I usually do and I had the throttle pinned coming out of a lot of the corners to keep up. I am giving up 40hp to your 1125. When I was leading I like to late brake and carry more speed through the corner. Average speed was about the same. All the time NEVER going over the posted speed limit. Nice ride BTW to bad nobody else showed up. We had fun anyway. That 106 degrees just keeps the tires warm. Rick. Right, I forgot to clarify that we always obey city, county, state, and federal traffic laws while operating a motor vehicle on public roadways. At 106 degrees, the bears were probably smart enough to not be riding around on motorcycles. I think this thread had good information for the OP and stayed on topic as good as most. Thanks | ||
