All kidding aside I've got a big, round, XXL sized mellon. I was curious as to what helmets and brands guys with similar shaped heads prefer. That way I can narrow my search. The things that matter to me are room for my glasses, a lack of wind noise, good ventilation and good visibility. As always price matters too, but I don't want to skimp at the price of safety. JT |

Sport Rider mag did a helmet test two years ago. It addressed head shapes among other things. Unfortunately, a lot of the models are obsolete. Hopefully they'll run a new test soon. I have a 2xl head myself, but more of the ovalish variety. Helmet Harbor sometimes addresses head shape in their descripton of helmets: www.helmetharbor.com I just bough a KBC VR1 helemt that fits me well, and is supposed to fit most head shapes well. It is a VERY nice helmet that retails for $200-$250. It is easily approaching Shoei and Arai in quality, IMHO. You can get them for KILLER deals at a lot of places now. Impulse101, go to the IMS (Cycle World) show when it comes close to you. I like to use it for trying on helmets to determine fit and comfort. In '98 I decided an Arai Quantum E fit best. After I started wearing glasses full time, I decided that I wanted a Modular (Flip up) helmet, and found one that I really liked. My wife found a different helmet that fit her better, and our two daughters found a third brand that fit them best. SO now I wear a Schuberth Concept, Terri wears a HJC Symax and the two girls like Jarrow helmets. Helmet comfort varies with each person. Most of the major (and a few minor) manufacturers have displays at the show, use them to decide what feels best to you. |

Impulse 101 Give Daves a call at HDCC/Buell in Waterloo, IA. He hooked me up with a Shark helmet last winter for my XL noodle and I've been very happy with it. I think he's got some on sale as a matter of fact... Gearhead member in good standing of the infamous "Iowa Farm Mafia" |

I'd love to buy from Dave but I'm not willing to buy a helmet over the net. I have to try it on and get a feel for it before I plunk down the money. On the other hand, I will more than likely be ordering a Mikuni for my S3T this summer and I'll be on the phone with Dave or Bubba for that. I figure that since this board and the people connected to it have taught me just about about everything I know about my Buell, I will give the sponsors some business to show my gratitude. JT |

I agree, buying a helmet without trying it on is hard to do. Ride to the edge! Dave Iowa HD/Buell (Buell Cycle Center) |

Well after much trying at two stores I finally settled on a KBC TK-9. I tried lots of more expensive helmets that I didn't like as much as this one. It's a graphic but it's checkered black and white so it's not too crazy. I also modified it with two sets of Airborne wings, just as a personal statement. JT |

Shoei doesn't fit me and never tried AGV. My Arai Quantum/F and HJC CL14 helmets fit my fat melon pretty well. I would buy another online now that I know what fits. |
