>>>Probably not the Skyline drive I am familiar with---- Yeah . . . you really need to ask "Eastern", "San Franciso" or "Portland". The good news is that all are fabulous. |

Did a ride through with the mrs. about 12 years ago . Had lunch at Skyland which was great plus there were a couple of good short hike trail spurs from the parking lot to valley overlooks along with Appalachian trail intersection. (Watch out for Bears and Rattlers, My wife startled a former and I almost stepped on a latter!) Location is almost central on the drive so you have the Valley to explore at your discretion. We actually stayed in a hotel down near the Rockfish Gap/ Waynesboro area which gave us access to the Skyline to the north and the Blue Ridge to the south. Beautiful country either way. Got to find the time to visit the Old Dominion again. It's been too long. |

This is the drive through Shenandoah National Park we're talking about? The speed limit is 30 mph and they are SERIOUS about enforcing it!!! My buddy and I got written warnings for doing 35 through there several years ago. You don't REALLY want to go that fast either as there are white tailed deer EVERYWHERE and they have absolutely NO fear of people or their cars. Thanks to idiot tourists, the deer now associate people and cars with a source of food. |

I live near Skyline Drive and we tend to associate deer with food. |

Thanks to idiot tourists, the BEGGARS now associate people and cars with a source of food. That's how it would read in NYC! |

When do you plan on going through Dano? I was supposed to ride it last September but failed bearings had other ideas. Now, baring any unforeseen hazards, I should be coming through there around the 25th or 26th of May. |

Last year they were resurfacing the roads, on the weekends it was pretty clear, but there was a lot of gravel in the roadway. |

You can camp at Loft Mountain. If you google the Skyline Drive, there is a map available of the facilities and their mileposts. Skyline Drive is scenic and full of furry critters but... you must pay $10 to use it and the speed limit is 35mph. Picking up the BRP in Waynesboro saves you $$ and jacks the MPH limit to 45. NUTS |

+1 on the BRP, I road the whole 417 miles last time I went to Deals Gap and it was great. Depending on the time of year it can get a little chilly at the higher elevations but the view is spectacular. The BRP does not have many pull overs for scenic viewing but I always found a spot to park the bike and the traffic was much lighter than Skyline Drive. |

Watch your speed on the Skyline Drive, ticketed offenders will appear in Federal Court. The $10.00 Pass with map gives you unlimited usage for seven days. The staff are friendly and ready to answer your questions. You will need insect repelant for you stops at the scenic pull overs. The animals gathered at the top of the mountains are waiting to fill the next ark two by two, so if you see one you would be well advised to keep slowing down. Also deer running uphill have no trouble clearing the laid up stone walls bordering the Drive. And if you're really lucky once they land on the asphalt they'll do a little Break--or maybe it should be "Brake" dance just for you. The Drive is beautiful. Gas is available on the Drive. |
