Dealers received notice about bikes being discontinued for 2010. FLHT, FLTR, FXWC (Rocker), FXDL (Lowrider) and 883C. NO Vrods made the list. Any word on Buell??

I'd say if any Buells bit the bullet, it would be the Blast or the CityX. The Blast is WAY overdue for an update and was suspiciously late arriving this year, and the CityX is the very last of the 9's... seems to be leading to a phase-out.

Last year everyone complained that the 12S and STT didn't make the cut, but I am very happy with the replacements once we found out what they are. : )

Harley is closing the Sportster/Buell motor plant on Capitol Drive, by the PDC. They're moving operations to the motor plant up here in Menomonee Falls. I haven't heard anything, but I got a sneaky suspicion that we're going to be seeing less aircooled motors and more Rotax.

Liquid cooled replacements would be nice.

If you don't think Buell has had an effect on motorcycling...look at a Kawi ER6n..from it's underslung exhaust, trellis frame and even radiator "pods"...looks like a threesome between a Ninja, a Tuber, and an 1125cr...I likes it.

2009 Blast information calls it the Blast Base...hope that means there is a "new blast" coming....with modern attributes...there has to be people out there like me that like "lightweight" bikes that are more than commuter drones...I for one would like a lightweight bike that has all the good stuff from the factory....the Kawi has 72hp in a thouroughly modern engine...it's 82 pounds heavier than a Blast...but even with the weight, it has 6.13 pounds per hp compared to the Blast at 10.58.

At least stuff some XB stuff in the old Blast engine for 40ish hp and offer adjustable suspension and "rearset" pegs...

If they're going to get rid of the Road Glide I hope they replace it with this.

Id like to see the Blast get some of that new MX technology on the street.
Maybe time for a new BlasTT
put some moto tires on it, lighten the whole unit, give it the water thumper Rotax 450cc motor, lights, and some gas capacity.... make mine in orange.

Sorry, I was referring to the "liquid cooled bagger" debate that comes around every year.

And yes, without stirring the badweb, it'd be verrry quiet around here ; )

The class benchmark for model speculation was Jeremy Ricker in 1996.

That's a story that still gets told a lot.

BTW- Has anybody seen the latest Cycle World? They're not known for posting wild speculation, and they've got a story about a rumored water-cooled V-4 Harley engine in the works.

That would be the Nova. Is it coming off the shelf??? Is HD going to use it??? Is Buell going to get it?? That is what the story reads.

No, it's not the Nova, although the article references that project.

" FLHT, FLTR, FXWC (Rocker), FXDL (Lowrider) and 883C. NO Vrods made the list."

FLHT: A great bike for a price point machine, touring but no frills. Don't get it that it's getting the axe.

FLTR: I gotta say, WTF folks?!?! This is the BEST tourer they have, damn the folks who like the Batwing better, the FLTR is the better design by far! A buddy from my old work just had his 08 "house custom" finished, got to see it last Saturday night at the Unknown Hinson show- black and BADDD!! I've always thought the FLTR should get the Ultra treatment and promoted more strongly. Craptastic.

FXCW, FXCWC- feh- lost their chance to make it. BFD, so long.

FXDL: Lowrider, an iconic bike and name. Stupid that they don't 86 the FXDC instead. Never did think 86'ing the Wide Glide was smart, but they are expanding the Dyna family more than the others lately anyhoo.

883C? Does this eliminate 883's with a 4.5 gallon range? Methinks it does.

At least they have the new Iron, which is the kewlest of the bunch. I'd LOVE to get one, stuff a Buell motor in it, make a real sleeper out of it.

Can't believe the FLTR is getting 86'ed. Sucktastic.

WDVX just played "Two Wheels" whilst I was writing this- "two wheels down the highway, leaving my troubles behind..." what a great song! Didn't get the artist...

EDIT- Van Eaton, "Two Wheels"- a new fave to request from WDVX. Youn's should tune in/webcast in. GUUUD stuff IMHO.

That surprises me that they would discontinue the FLHT and FLTR, they just redesigned the FL frame, and those are staples...the FLHT is the cheaper(stripped)version of the baggers, inexpensive way to get into a bagger; and the FLTR is the only frame mounted fairing which seems to have a big following, seems to get bigger every year. Maybe that does mean liquid cooled is in the works. From the beginning of the V-Rod it has been said that engine would be used for more....

On the flip side, it doesn't surprise me that the FXWC (Rocker), FXDL (Lowrider) and 883C were canceled. The FXWC didn't seem to find it's niche, the FXDL seems to come and go from time to time, and the 883c is just a trim level which have been changing alot it seems.

Anyway, hope it all works out for the better....newer more impressive vehicles.

FLHT: Electra Glide Standard

FLTR: Road Glide

The nomenclature is hard to follow, especially if you go back in the decades.

FL indicates the wide profile, 16" front wheel.

FLH indicates Touring family

FLHR indicates Road King models

FLHT indicates Electraglides

FLTR is the Road Glide, introduced in 1980 as the Tour Glide. Groundbreaking model at the time, ever the stepchild to the "Batwing"-faired bikes. Best ride of all the Touring bikes, unique by virtue of the frame-mounted fairing.

I doubt the CityX will get the axe.
With lower insurance rates and lower MSRP than the 12, it should remain a strong seller.

Too bad about the Road Glide, if true. The fairing was due for another revision, though, so maybe HD has something else behind the curtain to replace the FLTR? I certainly hope so...

Thanks Squids.

Never been a fan of the look of the Road Glide. Looks like an old snowmobile but to each their own. Maybe they are updating it for 2011 or something. What are the advantages/disadvantages to a frame mounted fairing? I have never rode either bike but I am curious because besides the XL1200R the Street Glide is the other Harley I kinda dig. Especially in flat black.

The FLHT would be the one I would buy if I had the money. I don't need the extra chrome bits or the radio of the Classic or Ultra, but I would like a bagger for the long slab rides.

I agree.

The FLHT was on my list of possibilities when I think of HDs.

When you think of it, this would be the time to take the leap into the future. The base is getting old and the younger market appears to be leaning toward sport bikes.

When they make my XL1125R, I want it in bright red and weighing in at 450 pounds.

When they make my FLHT-Rod they can make it black.

With those two machines and the new cafe' style Blast I will order (dark metallic green and white please), I don't think I would need another bike.
