It will NEVER happen in my life...but I was just wondering how many of you have wives who ride and how that works out for you?

Frankly, when my wife and I try to ride bicycles together it seldom works out well for either of us. I try to ride slower and not make it competitive in the slightest but after a few miles...we are just too far apart in our abilities and approach.

So..how's it work with your wives? Are you ever concerned about her safety when riding?

My wife has lots of other great qualities...but anything out on the road just doesn't work for her.

Answering this post comes at great personal RISK . I ride with my wife , first on the cruzers and now that I have gone Buell , she has too . Yes there are some slower days , but she is probably keeping me out of trouble. We ride about the same pace most of the time , but when I want to cut loose and hit it she does not mind and catches up later. Of course when we get home and we BOTH got to go out and have a good ride things are always better Yeah I'm a lucky guy

I've been riding with my wife for about 5 years now. She averages about 6000+ miles per year and we try to do at least 2, week-long road, trips every year.

It's not a competition. Sometimes I ride faster, but I always keep her in the rear view mirror. Sometimes I've had trouble keeping up with her. I tried to pass on all my safe riding knowledge, and she was willing to listen. She started on smaller bikes (KZ440, Blast, Ninja 500) and worked her way up to an R1150R. She occasionally rides the S3T, but she admittedly doesn't really get the Buells.

I still get nervous (especially on the rare occasion when I'm not with her), but I know she is being careful. She's usually ATTGAT so that mitigates a small portion of worry.

Life is a series of calculated risks, so I'm not going to refuse to let her ride, because I know she now loves it as much as I do. It has become a permanent part of our lives.

We've had some of the best vacations of our lives on 2 wheels. She impressed the hell out of me last year when we road the Alps and Dolomites.

My wife has a Sportster and we ride together all the time. A good friend of ours rides his Ducati with us too. We just have to slow down in the straightaways to let my wife catch up.

The first year was pretty nerve wracking, but it's gotten better now. She rides well within her limits and doesn't let others push her. Last year she did smoke a couple of HD's in the twisties that were trying to keep her from passing. We all got some good laughs out of that one.

My wife rides a Blast. She took the safety course and got licensed about three years ago. I found the best way for us to get anywhere is let her lead where she is familiar with the roads. Under that circumstance she does great. Riding alone she does great.

When she followed me her first year and a half, sometimes it was as if she was in the passenger seat and looking around at the scenery. I always kept her in my mirrors, but sometimes that meant going twenty miles per hour in a fifty zone, with cars on her butt, because she was looking at something. Some serious coaching about the danger in what she was doing, and she has become much better at keeping up. She likes riding it to work because of the looks she gets, and she can run that Blast all week on less than two gallons of gas.

Now that she has a bit more experience I enjoy riding the back roads around here with her.

Ann has no interest in riding (piloting) although every once in a while she talks about a bike.
She rides with me, and it works out fine.

My wife rides a xb9s. I ride the Uly with our son on the back. Never EVER did I think my wife would own and ride her own bike.
As far as how we ride together, I road race a xb12r, so I can get my "need for speed" out at the track. I ride at her pace on the road. I don't want her to feel pressured into keeping up or riding outside her comfort zone. She likes to ride in smaller groups because some people we ride with push it on the street and she doesn't feel comfortable. I usually try to split the gap between the faster riders and the slower ones, keeping us together, which makes the ride more work than fun for me. So we usually just ride by ourselves.

My wife rides. She started on a Blast 4 years ago. Now she rides a 9. She does fine.

My sweetie has her license, but decided that she really prefers being a passenger. It lets her catch up on her reading.

I wish my wife would have considered it. If she had maybe we wouldn't be at the tail end of a divorce.

That'sok. I'll find me a nice lady to ride with or maybe even get a axle cracker.

An axle cracker is a lady so fat that when you put her on the back of your bike it cracks your axle. For examples just go to any H.O.G. meeting.

My wife doesn't get the "stick shift" concept and can barely ride a bicycle, but is a fearless passenger.

Terri, my wife, is the best riding partner I've ridden alongside. I've watched her go from a novice to becoming a competent street rider. I still keep one eye on my rear view mirror when we're riding together, but it's not from worrying about her. She loves to ride, and puts roughly 12,000 miles a year on her SS.

This was taken at Homecoming, last summer

I'm in the same boat as Crusty. My wife is the best riding partner I have as well. She talked me into getting bikes in bikes and we haven't looked back. We learned together and it's been a hoot. She put 12,000 miles on her blast the first year she had it. I too keep an eye on my mirror, but it's just an old habit from when she was learning. She is a great rider and will pull caboose when I'm leading a ride. She rides a 2003 xb9sl and does awesome, despite only being 5'2" and 100 pounds.

I'm one of the lucky ones.

My wife *IS* my best friend. She rides with me, and does track days with me. If I'm on my bike, and not commuting to work, my wife is with me.

Drummer:
My wife and I regularly ride together. We take a few vacations annually and ride a couple of weekends a month. She leads and sets the pace on her Sportster and I just follow along on my Ulysses. This keeps my speed in check and allows me to do more sightseeing than when I ride by myself or with a faster group. It works for us.

My wife Lori loves her new ride.
With this bike she could have a better chance of keeping up with Jerry Haughton!

When we can get a babysitter, it’s great to go for a ride or a trackday with my wife.

Couple years ago at the Inside Pass at MSR Cresson:

The girlfriend rides. Last season was her first, and like others, it's more work than fun right now. I actually prefer having her on the back of mine right now than her on her own bike, but that will change with time. I don't worry too much about her - she has a real straight head when it comes to all of this. Right now, she's on a Ninja 250 which is good for her, but means my real slow pace is about equal with her really starting to drop the hammer pace, so I try to keep the leash as short as possible for her.

The bike is quick enough for regular street duty, but she doesn't like to beat on things, so revving to 9,000rpm to just get to a 'normal' acceleration rate is still a little alien to her.

She's not picky about bikes - as long as she can get a red one and it's comfortable for her, she's sold. A Buell will be next.

My wife and I try to ride together at least once a week. She has no interest in a bike of her own but enjoys being the passenger. We started our relationship almost twenty years ago on a Honda CB750F. She has a been a great passenger ever since. I am currently trying to figure out the finances so I can an Uly. The M2 is a great bike but she can seem to get comfortable on it. We got a Corbin Gunfighter + lady which helped but we tested the Uly and she said the was "Way better" then the M2. So the M2 may be in the classified soon if I can not work the finances.

the wife started on two wheels, didn't do so good so we put a trike kit on my first ultra for her of which she was happy with it but wouldn't ride when i wasn't there. became a 37k paper weight with what i had into it. traded it for an 04 but in the mean time had a blast that she got back on and after doing the intermediate riders course up in greenville, her skills were increased considerably. plus changing out the handlebars with the lighting bars made a difference with the way it handled for her. i'd still like to see her take the advanced riders just to give her that little bit more of confidence that she could use. i always let her leed which makes for a better ride cause i'm not always looking the rear view mirror to see what's happening back there.

Dont have a wife, nor passenger pegs, now if I am on a cruiser and she isnt wearing a wedding ring, I might inadvertantly ride with somebody's wife.
