Samsung 750 52" LCD

Here's the deal. With my 120Hz set at Med or High I get blurry objects and a halo/blurry effect around characters. One blue ray that I recall watching that I got the halo effect was with the new Rambo. Also happens with normal sitcoms, if there's any fast motion the halo will occur. Another example of blurriness is the station icons on the bottom right corner of the TV. When the camera pans fast the icon will distort and blur. Im watching baseball right now and when an infielder throws the ball to first there will be a trail behind the ball, as the ball it's self will become completely blurred. Note: When I turn off the 120Hz I do not get any blurriness. Why would this be? I thought the 120Hz was there to prevent blur, not create it.

I just got off the phone with Samsung customer service and the lady told me this is normal. That the 120Hz is only made for football and soccer (I think this is BS). That if I was watching baseball/any other sport and other fast action material I will get the blur. Whats the deal with this!!!??? Very frustrated.....

The human eye can't perceive anything higher than 60hz. On older CRT displays going higher than 60hz was to reduce long term strain on the eyes from flicker, but there is no benefit on LCDs. Some TVs do 120hz to try and sharpen things, but its more marketing than anything.

Oh yea as for you saying its on medium or high, that proves right there that its something else going on in the background, some kind of post processing. 120hz is 120hz just like 120mph is 120mph. "Sorry officer, I had my 120mph set to medium."

The refresh rate on LCD panels is a bit of a misnomer; the spec refers to the maximum rate at which a crystal can twist "open" and "closed". If an area of the image is not moving at all the pixels(crystals) in that area remain in a steady state for the value specified by the digital signal. A station id icon is a good example of that. If you perceive blurring in that situation it likely the crystals are not switching fast enough. 60Hz is considered passable for most video based on a frame rate of 30 frames per second. 120Hz should not reveal any blurring.

I'm not sure if problems with one's electrical service may impact the electronics in an LCD, I would hope the engineers anticipated such an issue. Maybe Barker has something to say on the topic. Do you recall seeing the same model LCD in the showroom displaying motion clearly at the settings you are having problems with?

i have a 120hz LG and i also get the blur around characters! I do notice its not as bad in sports, but it is very noticable on my xbox during MLB 2K9.

I will have to check to see if i can turn it off!
