M2Statz - Never take the SO on a Uly test ride unless you are prepared to buy!!
On the M2 Ulywife does good to get 150 miles with the Corbin Seat. On the Uly she has ridden over 300 miles and is ready to go again the next day. The main reason I passed on smaller XB's is I ride with the Wife and Daughter.
Of course the wife took the fiddy on a joy ride yesterday when everyone was in the house. Hum, is the seed planted? |

I love to ride with Julie, she's not the fastest or sportiest rider, but watching the absolute joy she gets from being on her bike is one of the best things in my life. I don't worry about her so much on the street, but she scares the @#! out of me offroad sometimes. I try to avoid things like getting my bike stuck in the top bleacher seats at Road America(Homecoming last year). She's awfully proud of that one. |

MY wife is back on the bike this spring after 30+ years and it is great. She rode with me in High School, was with me when I picked up my brand new 1974 CB750, but hasn't ridden since we had an accident in 1976. We've been married almost 30 years and this is just like starting to date all over again. |

1974 CB 750.....was it gold metalflake? Did all four pipes rust through at the beginning of the mufflers in a year? If so, it sounds like my first all street bike. My first was a '73 XL250. |

Well I hope you behave yourself this time. 
Thanks guys for all of your responses. Very cool that many of you have riding in common. If there is one thing I've learned in 34 years of marriage (and probably ONLY one thing) it's that you have to work at marriage. And, having something that you do together is vitally important.
However, finding that thing sometimes ain't easy. |

I actually traded the dealer for a new 1972 Brown / Gold stripe tank. Took the baffles out of the pipes first week and put a four into one header second year.
Steve,
When we started dating I didn't even own a car we could fool around in, just the bike. Now we have the whole house!
Congrats on your 34 years. Maybe that's a subject for a post. "How many years have you been married?" Should it be "to the same woman or total" |

I guess Sandy and I have been lucky. We've been cruising through it too fast going on 22 years in May. If we had to work at it I would have been tossed a long time ago. |

Drummer, you are right on about marriage being work. I feel very, very lucky (like others here) that our common interest is riding. We take a cycle trip every year on our wedding anniversary. Great times! |

vern, saw two pristine cb 750's for sale yesterday up at webster. the guy wanted like 4500 for the one, didn't see a price for the other one. can't remember if it was a 74 or 76. |

really doesn't mean an awful lot to me either but just the idea of seeing these bikes was like going back to when i had my cb550 when i was in the navy. another guy had this really old, like 1920's harley in his van. |

I dont have a wife to ride with. But ride with my daughter when we can. I let her lead and set her pace works good that way. She's in school in another state,So I get to ride like I want most of the time. We've rode 2 weekends this year so far and weather permiting will ride this weekend. |

M2nc-Good advice but a 6 months too late!! still trying to work out the budget to be able to keep both bikes but it is not looking like that will work out. Keep a close eye on the classifieds here, E-bay and CL for the right Uly. |

As a wife of almost 10 years with Dan, he got me back on a bike (after about 25 yrs off one). He has me ride in front of him mainly to protect me. I think I go fast enough that he doesn't get bored.
We're actually heading out to a new track this Sat and he's going to be my pit crew along with another Bueller, Jody from Canon City. We usually take a week vacation in the summer with the bikes and just ride as many twisties as we can find. I love it. |

My wife rides with me when she can, finding a babysitter for our 2 y.o. can be a bit of a challenge! Seems that everyone at the base here in Italy wants to go do things on the weekends  . One of the first things we did after getting the Uly is go on a 7 days trip to the Le Mans MotoGP race and then over to Normandy. Worked out great! She used to have her license and plans on getting one again if/when we got back to the states. |

Bike time is "my" time. We have been married (to each other) 33 years and riding is something SHE suggested I take up to get me out of the house after retirement. (I don't think she even sees the bike in the middle of the garage!) I agree time together is very important but as we say to the kids: "If you never leave how can I miss you?" |

I'm another one of the lucky ones . Vamps and I ride together when we get a chance. We still sometimes double on the X1 too . I love being able to go for a ride with her, whether on our own bikes or one bike.
Like others have said, if I feel the "need for speed" I go for a ride by myself. |

My wife started riding her own bike at age 35. 24 years and bunches of bikes later she finally has a bike just her size. Her Blast eats up the local back roads and has renewed her love of riding. I'd rather ride with her than anyone else. |

I'm in the same boat as Xodot, bike time is my time.
She once expressed interest in a trike so we could go riding together, fortunately the idea wore off.
Before the boy was born she used to ride pillion on the FJ1200, but she's never been on either of the Buells.
One of my best friends has an Electra with all the whistles & bells, & she says she'll ride with me if I get one like that.
My reply was to the effect that if I wanted to strap a sofa to the back of a bike I'd have already done so. |

I love to ride with my SO, but I'm sure he would have something to say about it if anyone called him my wife! Lol
A lot of interesting comments. Sounds like you guys are all actually nice guys (but I won't tell anyone).
Back on topic-I would be the first to admit that my riding skills are that of someone who only first set foot on a peg a few years back, but still very competent, and perhaps a little more unconsciously aware than someone who has been riding for a lot longer at times.
I find it ironic that everyone seems concerned however, with checking the rear view mirror for a wife/girlfriend who 'may not be able to keep up'.
A short while ago Chili and I were on our way to work (Him in the f100 and I on the zepphyr). I asked him later if I looked like I was doing ok on the road, and he commented that "it looked like I was holding back" because he was there watching me. Truth be told, I was. Lol.
I feel more free to do as I please riding on my own, but none the less, I love riding both with Chili, alone on either bike and as passenger on the back of X.
I worry more about what could happen when he is out there riding alone. There are so many idiots on the roads.
One day. One day my CityX will come. |
