I'm heading to Ireland for a week over the Easter break and was wondering if I could rent a bike for a day. A Buell would be great but a Sportster, Beemer or just about anything would do. We will be staying in the Waterford area. | ||

Jerseyguy, I'm sorry to say that it is not possible  It has to do with their insurance laws. I found this out a couple of years back when I was in Dublin, hanging out in a pub with a local who worked for an big insurance company. I did a bit of research about it and it seems the only way to do it is to rent a bike in the UK and then take the ferry over to Ireland. I was wondering why there wasn't any rental or tour companies on the island and that is what I found out. Speaking of Dublin, I'm headed back up there but this time it will be over St Patrick's day! Something I've always wanted to do, I just hope my liver's up for it!!  | ||

If you do manage to get a bike there, make sure you have packed your rain gear. I loved the rain. I remember, fondly, my 2AM walk in a gentle rain through Galway. | ||

I've always wanted to go to Ireland. But I wouldn't ride a motorcycle there. When you're driving a car, you're always reminded that you're supposed to drive on the left side of the road because you're sitting on the right side of the car. A motorcycle doesn't give you that reminder. I'm afraid the first time I get into traffic might be my last. | ||

That reminds me of my trip from Manchester to Harrogate in the driving rain at 2 a.m., hungover,jet lagged and exhausted from an 8 hour flight that was delayed 12 hours on a rented VFR800. All I could think was "Don't barf in your helmet. Don't barf in your helmet." What a trip! | ||

I was surprised at how quickly that I had no problem driving on the left. You always have to keep it in mind when you come to an intersection.-Look right first. | ||

This one looks pretty good actually, lots of bikes to rent in Ireland....I saw BMW, Moto Guzzi Norge (my personal favorite) and HD's as well as traditional sportbikes from Ducati, so there ya go. Looks pretty easy to rent one there in Ireland. If you haven't ridden one, really try the Norge, it is a phenomenal motorcycle, 7 gallon tank, adjustable windshield, six speed, saddle bags that detach with the key as luggage, optional ABS (I don't care for it) and a set of Metzler Z6 sport tour tires stock....it is really a nice bike to ride.
