Just received a Special Ops pipe from Odie today. And I'm wondering if Buell honors the warranty if you bring your bike in for work with a modified exhaust. Never had a problem with any of the Harleys I've owned. Just curious. I have to say again my Uley XT is the best handling and most fun bike I've owned/ridden in my 43+ years of riding' Bob | ||

It depends on your dealer. Also by law they can't void your warranty unless they can prove that the aftermarket part is the cause of your issue. Even then they will just bitch and make you foot the bill. | ||

It depends on your dealer. +1 I had no problems getting warranty work on mine with a Drummer, catch can, and open air box. | ||

My new 03 XB9S came with a Latus Exhaust already on it before I bought it. I did run into a problem when the race ECM (also installed on the bike before I bought it brand new) with the extended warranty. The company didn't want to cover it. With help from our friend Court, I got it resolved in a compromise that worked for me. | ||

Bottom line on warranties. Harley pays the dealer a lot less for warranty work than the dealer can charge the customer, which is limited only by his imagination and greed. Therefore, most dealers decline to do most warranty work if there is any conceivable, or inconceivable reason not too. Aftermarket parts should not affect the warranty if they do not cause the problem. Federal Law. That never stopped a Harley dealer from trying though. If you have a problem, try to remain civil, get in touch with Court. OK? | ||

People are always quick to cite the Magnusson-Moss Act but it's not quite that simple in that a customer claiming protection under the act may incur the legal responsibility to take on some pretty messing forensic engineering as it becomes the customers obligation to "PROVE" the mod and the problem have no correlation. The law makes for better internet chat room banter than actual protection. Manners are your best weapon. I've seen folks, who did not warrant it "based on fact" get things from great service to new motorcycles because they were civil and pleasant to deal with. Flame me if you want . . . that's simply based on my experience. I'm sure others here have successfully threatened large corporations. | ||

We often approach people only knowing what we want. I try to ask myself what is in it for the man/woman in front of me. Sometimes people will do things for you to make their selves feel good. It is easier to help someone if you feel they deserve it. WARNING: getting long winded here. Two women looked at an orange on the table. Each had a use for it and the fight was on. They finally cut it in half. Each retreating with their share. (I think I read this in one of Kyosaki's books) Had they discussed each other's needs they could have each had an orange. One lady wanted a glass of orange juice and the other wanted to zest said orange for a cake she was going to bake. Just another way of looking at negotiations.
