So today I thought I'd take my 2008 Ural Gear Up out for a ride. Did I mention that we got almost 30cm of snow. Happiness is a snow covered wheel Here it is with a few guys on snowmobiles that I followed on the trails for a while Parked at the office just after I arrived. And a shot of the two Urals in Town on the snowmobile trails just outside of the city. I have to say this two wheel drive Ural is one of the best bikes I've owned. Keep the riding throughout the year. |

HAHAHAHA I remember that!!!!! I don't think it would do as good as the Lightning at passing RVs at high speed. How fast were we going anyway and how many RVs was it again? It was all a blur. |

Hey, how much mechanical ability does it take to keep one of those running? Are they easy and reliable or Ducatiesque? |

My father-in-law wanted one of those REALLY bad, just never got around to it. That two-wheel drive option is the coolest thing ever. The offroad videos on the site are amazing... looks like a ton of fun. I'd love to have one, though the last I heard Ural recommended a max speed of like 60 mph? ~SM |

I've had it up to 60mph and its fine and thats what Ural recommends but I don't think I'd want it to go any faster. I also have an old Dnepr MT10-36 which you have to tinker with every time to keep it going. The Ural at least has Ducati Ignition, Modern CV Carbs, better machining of the parts and is much more reliable. Its still a twin cylinder pushrod engine that with the exhaust it has sounds like a briggs & stratton lawn tractor but to be honest I like it quiet. If I want a loud beast I'll wait for the snow to melt and take out the S1 or the S3T for a blast. Thats the max speed limit here on the island. As for those RVs 125mph seems about right because I vaguely rememer my speedo closing in on the 200kph range. I'll be back someday just a matter of timing. |

Looks like a hoot! Those Urals are GROOOOVY! Functional! Big fun! Not sure I'd do well with the snow if it were more than just a novelty (eh, 3-4 days of it and than back to FL is just fine). Been there, done that. 20+ years in Northern Minnesota, brrrrr...then we flew south and thawed out! Enjoy the Ural!!! |
