Saw the Doctor yesterday and we have the surgery to install the permanent morphine pump system scheduled for March 11th, unless someone backs out of a slot on the 4th of march. I'm looking forward to this one and I'm far less worried than I was about the test run we had a week and a half ago. There will be a period of adjustment as they slowly ramp up the dosage to find a balance point unlike the test where they put in a fairly high dosage level to find out if this treatment would work for me at all since some people do not respond to it. The best part of the news is that it shouldn't infringe much on my riding season. I will have to take it easy and stay off the bike for a week to 10 days, but that is a small price to pay. It is so good to know that the light at the end of the tunnel isn't a train! It is very hard to keep a positive attitude when you are in pain every day and there is no end in sight, and I have had some pretty serious bouts of depression the last few years but those days should be behind me now! So I'll be asking for your support again as the day of surgery draws near, but I thought I owed those that have stood behind me an update on what's up. Those that know me know that I'm not at all shy about talking about what happened to me or my medical care. In fact it has become pretty standard that they bring the interns around to see me in the hospital because I'm all for others benefiting from what has happened to me. I get why some people are touchy about talking about their infirmities. They are afraid of their defects defining who they are. I have no worries on that front. I'm not one to let others define who I am or what I can or can't do. This should be the best summer I've had in six years! I can't wait! |
