I returned from Germany yesterday through Atlanta. Just before we landed in Atlanta, one of the flight attendants announced that we had several service men and women on board and she thanked them for their service to our country. Big applause and a touching moment.

That was not all. There was a group of high school seniors on board. I found out later that they were a choir that had been spending a week in a singing competition in southern Germany.

At the moment the wheels touched the ground they started singing the Star Spangled Banner. It was a touching moment and I was glad to be there.

Best Welcome Home I have ever gotten.

Just to clarify.
I am not in the armed forces. I realize now what I wrote could be misunderstood. I was just a lucky civilian in the right place at the right time.

coolio - thx for sharing : )

my son Wade recently finished a six-year stint in the US Army.

he's told me numerous stories of random acts of patriotism bestowed upon him during his travels, some while he was in uniform, some while he wasn't, but all made him (and his Dad) proud of his service, and proud of his country.

That's a nice story.

When a group of about 10 of us were hanging around the airport on our way back to Iraq, some guy in a business suit tried to take us all out to lunch. If we hadn't just eaten, we would have taken him up on it.

There are a lot of good people out there.

I have a bunch of friends going back yet again in a few weeks.

Here's to them making it back alive and in one piece. Not everyone we went with last time was so lucky.
