having grown up in nj, it has always amazed me the way motorcycles can split lanes in ca. If you tried that in nj you would be dead in under 10 minutes. And most likly not by accident. | ||

Absolutely accurate. I always said I never would in California and was before I knew it . . . folks, bikes and cars, were very cool about it. That being said I will say this when I went to bootcamp way back when in FT Jackson S.C. the Snr drill instructer in like our 3rd day there just said to the co. all you NY and NJ maggotts go with the CQ and get your military license we need sun. duty drivers if you can drive there and are still alive you can drive in this mans army | ||

I've lived in Hunterdon County all my life. Grew up in a little town called Oldwick, family's been here over 100 yrs. It was beautiful farm country till city folks and out of staters thought it would be a great place to build giant over priced homes. Lot of big name entertainment people have called this area home(or at least one of their homes). Must have been something good about it. And while I agree traffic, motor vehicle, roadways,etc. need a lot of changes, as long as I can ride or drive and not run into any large citified areas I'm happy.There are still some nice riding roads in the north and south as long as you skirt the more built up areas. I enjoy riding-driving in other states, it's a great change of pace and scenery. As far as people go , you'll run into all types where ever you go. It's so easy to stereotype people from a couple of poor instances. Bottom line is, if there was a heck of a lot more people with the same views as most of you have, NJ wouldn't be so crowded and perhaps some of the beautiful land that was once here, would still be. All kidding aside the truth about NJ is I bitch about it but I couldn't live anywhere else I think except Europe it is all I have ever known I like the busyness of NJ I even like the evening comute in the summer as I live in Sussex county and work in Hudson county mostly the change in 38 miles is unbelievable. I can go to the breatest city in the world with my wife for dinner and enjoy the end of the evening on my porch looking at the stars the same with going to the Shore everything is a daytrip for us so it can be great but there is always a down side of up. The roads are horrible but not as bad as the Bronx | ||

Ahhh, New Jersey... I too grew up in the Garden State, and this thread brought tears to my eyes (of laughter, that is). I recall that when I moved to Northern Virginia, I was frustrated by the drivers there - too much of a mix of aggressive and non-aggressive drivers. At least in New Jersey you could count on them being aggressive! Out here in So Cal everyone's fast and aggressive, so its kinda like home again... The roads are better here, however at least one of the local cities here has taken up "traffic calming measures." They're putting in traffic circles, and narrowing the streets, all in the hopes that traffic will slow. Jug handles are probably next. I do envy your proximity to NYC, and your fall/spring (but you can keep the winter and summer)... | ||

Oldwick is in a beautiful area, not too far from Branchburg, my old stomping grounds! I'm sure I wouldn't recognize the area these days, though. OK, now I'm embarrassed, Court. You do live in a pretty special place though. | ||

route 22 I used togo out to the amusement place out that way I forget the town the joint still might be there I don't know I don't get down that way to much anymore. Once in a while for a patriots minor league game and to pick up parts at a place just past countyline rd | ||

Oldwick Is a really nice area, I grew up in Montgomery (just north of Princeton) As much as I complained about it earlier I will admit that NJ does have a certain charm to it. It is nice to visit now but with the taxes and continual over-population I don't think i could move back. I will agree with asb-lady, these SC drivers are driving me nuts!!!, they are soo laid back I cant get use to it. Up north you would be run off the road for ever going under the speed limit. (side note for all in that area, if you want to get a bunch of strange looks loft the front wheel of a lightning down main street Princeton, thought the campus, Wasn't smart but was still fun!) | ||

Our son went to a Patriots game this last summer! He only had a week back there, but my family fit that into a whirlwind of activity... They brought him in to NYC to see the Empire State Building, go around Manhattan on the Circle Line tour, see St. Pat's Cathedral, Central Park, etc... They even made it down to the Jersey shore for a couple of days. When he got back here, he was pretty exhausted, but thought that it was a very cool place to live. | ||

I like the little stadium and the fireworks nights rock. I got a coworker with rental properties in seaside park but I aint much for the shore I actually like NY state a little better Lake George is GODS country | ||

before you get out to 287 actually there is a little kiddie park maybe mountainside or something it's on the west bound side there is like a little ferris wheel and playland more than an amusement thing sorry it's right on the tip SOMEBODY GIVE A FELLA A HAND it's gonna drive me nuts. Good ol fort William Henry and the Minnie Ha HA ya know what aside from the roads I think I'll keep ol dirty Jerzey and Don't forget summer concerts at PNC Asbury Park and Great Adventure | ||

We are dangerously close to letting out a state secret. I had a roommate from Virginia who swore that they misdrew the Pennsylvania border, and that I really grew up in Pennsylvania (she seemed to think that was nicer because of the NJ rep). So yeah, NJ drivers are the worst, the roads are awful, it's the armpit of the nation, etc... Let them all think that so the parts that still are beautiful can remain so! As for Lake George... We went camping at the boat access only islands (Turtle Island or Little Turtle?). I can remember swiming across to an island with my brothers rowing alongside in case I got tired... We didn't get to see the Minnie Ha Ha or Fort, or any of the attractions along the way, though. Thanks for bringing back some really special memories - I miss it back there! | ||

Hey brumbear are you thinking of Bowcraft Amusement park? I dont know what town thoug, maybe Scotch Plains. To all you other jersey haters I agree but court is right look into sussex, hunterton somerset counties all nice ares in the north and south jersey might as well a whole other state. | ||

The 5 and more so the 6 roads in warren and sussex are very very good riding. Hoseph in a couple weeks we should be in full getting alot more throttle time anytime your heading out post up and I'll do likewise everyone is always welcome. I usually like to head up into I guess its sullivan county behind the hawks nest but I'll run the warren and hunterdon counties as well Pa is alright but I don't ride much overthere | ||

That would have been Rahway's own "Deal in Wheels" or as the locals called it, "Steal your Wheels" owned by none other than Leo the hoarder. That guy has so much rare cool old HD stuff he could sell it and invite Robin Leach over. B&D was the HD dealer across the street it was Bill and Diana (I may be mistaken on Diana as a friend of mine is a Bill with a Diana wife) Bill had some disease (sugar I think) and towards the end they just kept cutting chunks off of him. There used to be a picture of him in there competing in a hillclimb from waayyyy back. He was airborn and crossed up on an old rigid HD. I don't remember what model. There was a bike magazine that did a big tribute to him and his shop after "The Motor Company" stripped him of his franchise. | ||

I remember all the parts hanging from the ceiling pipes and tanks . Wayne was his kid I think but I know Bill had a couple vincient Black shagows as well |
