This might help mellow out some that get too worked up about "problems with Buells" and "Buell quality". While my Uly has not been flawless, at least my frame isn't breaking like some of these guys with GSXR's are. Guy I work with just got his recall notice for his 2006 GSXR 1000, and another got these pics from what appears to be a track day/amatuer race mishap where the Suzook's frame went 2 separate ways.  | ||

Suzuki recently had a recall on some models for this problem, I believe it included the 06's. | ||

That's because they keep getting lighter and lighter without using lighter materials. Just less of the same material. | ||

doesn't look that different from the 87 gsxr750 I was riding when I got hit by a car in 03... It was in 3 distinct chunks if you don't count the hundreds of fairing fragments. After spending time a the track I am much more impressed with how well the XB Buells survive crashes. These are seriously tough bikes! | ||

I just read the official recall notice. It is for '05 and '06 GSX-R1000s. My '04 K3 missed the recall. I'm still going to look pretty closely at the frame when I take off the plastic to do the clutch. There is a lot to be said for having most of the mechanicals and structure out in the air where you can see them. Thanks for posting that. Bill | ||

Yamaha is also have a problem with cracks on there 06 & 07 fz1 naked bikes,as per there per there owners forum. | ||

They are also 1 horsepower per kilogram being ridden by the BMX generation. Some of them take a horrid beating from 'almost' good stunters. | ||

What do engineers say? Keeping lightening the part until it fails and go one step heavier... When I worked at bicycle shop for a short time in high school, the most common phrase uttered by people attempting warranty work was "I was just riding along..." And... the frame cracked in half, the wheel folded, etc. I agreed with D_d and doubt that stunting it was what Suzuki originally intended for the bike. |
