A quick question: I've got one of those small Battery Tender trickle chargers for the bikes, will it work as an overnight sub-zero°F tender for the car battery? Mine is a few years old and looks sort of like this one (assuming I remember what it looks like): imagelinked from http://www.batteriesxpress.com/Store/images/Batter y_Tender_Plus.jpe |

Looks like I'll probably be okay using it per this page as long as I have the Plus version: http://www.batterytender.com/
quote:The Battery Tender Plus is ideal for most applications: Automobiles, Motorcycles, RV's, ATV's, Golf Carts, Trucks & general use.

Any 12 volt trickle charger will work on any 12v battery. |

But the Battery Tender technically ISN'T a "Trickle Charger." |

It will not bring a dead battery up very fast, but it will top off the charge & maintain it.I use one on a AGM boat battery(Optima)to maintain it.I use the battery to power a VHF radio in my shop.If it is somewhat discharged it will take a day & a half to bring it up to full charge. That battery is now 5 yrs old & going strong. |

We should ask Billy Mays if he has ever represented them on TV. Then we would know everything it can do and probably a few things it wasn't designed for. And you can get two for the price of one(just pay shipping of course). |

I charged five 12 volt batteries hooked together with a "real" charger and then put my tender on the set. It fried the tender. Evidently the tender is good for only "one" battery at a time. On the other hand, how in the hell do these "jump boxes" start a car with a dead battery.......when the battery in the jump box is about as big as a paver brick? |

I got a battery about the same size as a pack of cigarettes, weighs 2lbs, and can replace the battery in your car. I took it off my bike to jump start my car a week ago. Its not the size that matters, but cold cranking amps. |

"Its not the size that matters, but cold cranking amps." I've got a sneaking suspicion that the opportunity will present itself this week for me to use that line in a conversation which doesn't involve batteries. |

yes it will work.... motorcycle batteries are slow charged compared to cars, so its going to take a long time. over night may be good enough |

I had a dead battery in my Jeep after my incident this summer (months of non-use - me, and the Jeep). Jumped it off our diesel (2 batteries) and drove it about 25 miles. Hooked my tender to it overnight - it was red when I hooked it up, but topped off and started fine in the morning. Been starting fine ever since (that was late Sept. I think). |
