The "winter hobbies" thread got me thinking about other hobbies that take up my time and money.

So what keeps you sane in this crazy world?

Besides the motorcycles (d'uh)....

Land Rovers www.discoweb.org

Brewing http://www.beertools.com/

I've attached links to a few of the sites I frequent in relation to these hobbies.

Also feel free to post any pictures of your objects of obsession : D

My two kids keep me pretty busy but I can't say they keep me sane.LOL As I get older and seeing my kids grow so fast and now teens and one driving. I find out how fast life really passes.

My other hobby though is my two Boerboels. The breed just intrigues me. I have also gotten to meet other owners of the breed even from Africa.

Raleigh

SABT appraisal 2007. First pick is Raleigh with me and two South African appraisers. Second is Libby with my wife.

Riding is pretty much my only hobby right now. Everything else that I do is in support of that.

This year I am going to learn to mold fiberglass and make my own fiberglass body components.

LOTS of skiing. Maybe some wrench turning on the '64.

Eboos - fiberglass is easy to do, hard to do well..

Hey - it's better than the warden.

I forget, which one takes care of you and which one threatens you?

I have started painting minis for "Warmachine". I finally bought a TV and DVD player so I have been watching WAY too much TV. Thinking of taking up Tai Chi.

Home Brewing (not as often as I would like), camping, and exercise. I started exercising again to be a better rider and it helped greatly with fatigue resistance. People think I am nuts when they comment on me losing weight and I tell them that I did it so my bike would be faster.

I work on my art crap. You can check out my work at www.brickandmortar.org

Click on "artist's proof" on the site. I'm also doing some conceptual crap that I'll trot out under a fake name, Krivlo Shrovbwlumbvski. Yeah, I need a girlfriend.
Working out. For the first time in 43 years. Rehab for an injury. Drinking, it makes working out so much nicer.

Bout it.

Ham radio and lately woodworking is taking up some time.

I am a newby at handtool woodworking but did my longest MC ride to date to Penland (www.penland.org) in NC for a class with Roy Underhill (See PBS The Woodwright's Shop). 600 miles each way. That is about as long as I would care to ride solo but arriving in NC I certainly enjoyed the last hour of roads in NC. Seems they really bank their turns.

Roy's class was challenging and I was bushed and sore by the end of the week but I learned a lot. The ride home required a lot of brief stops. That 5 hour energy stuff does help.

My employer is separating me in 13 months so I am going to have some time to get more serious about some of these hobbies. If I can get a part time job for a few years I should be able to explore the woodworking a little more fully. And I have a book I "may" write someday. Used to do some astronomy but the light pollution is soooo dang bad that it is true shame not to be able to see the stars in the heavens above our heads. Motorcycles are a way to get to the places where the sky is dark but not the best for delicate optics.

"you have other hobbies? i just wreck my bike every fall "

Marty - I like "The Whole Marianne" and "Simple Teeth". Nice.

The weather here is pretty good all year, so no winter hobbies, so these are my all year hobbies:

Music - Playing bass with the Blues Doctors...

Main hobby at the moment is "the lemonchili project". I'm finally recording my originals and putting my own band together.

Shameless self promotion starts here - you can hear some stuff at myspace demos. I should have some new stuff up this weekend too.

I love cars as much as bikes, but prefer old, loud, leaking stuff:

This one might get some TLC over the Xmas break:

There is of course Mrs Chili, but I wouldn't call her a hobby, more co-conspirator, or partner-in-crime ; )

I find I have too many hobbies, and I battle to balance the time to work on them all... Anybody else find that? Or maybe I have A.D.D.... Oooh, look, shiny...

Class with Roy Underhill? Dang I'm jealous, I love that show. Just today I was trying to find my sharpening stone so I could at least imagine what it will be like to gouge some wood again.

I don't know if it is a hobby yet, but I'm making myself get out and hike to be in better shape for snowboarding this winter. Maybe I can combine some of my activities in a creative way. I once put a razor edge on my hatchet...let's see...snowboarding with a razor sharp hatchet...hmmmm

Finding work has become a serious hobby of late, that is so I can afford to go to more track days. And I have been cooking a lot lately, but I don't want to call that a hobby...and don't you dare tell any one that I know how.
