Anybody else see this? http://blog.motorcycle.com/2008/11/05/bmw-unveils- concept-at-eicma/ Looks like an interesting concept. I know Buell tried something kind of similar (not as extensive) with the S3 back in '98 or so. HBJ |

I was gonna put in a line relating to trolls, but that would be in poor taste Edit: I spelled Beemer wrong, oh well, I don't feel like fixing it. (Message edited by froggy on November 07, 2008) |

I found this quote interesting by Motorcylce.com:
quote:while restoring the passion and excitement that has been missing from BMW street bikes over the last few years.
Buell actually did something much more extensive and it didn't work out great. Not bad but there are some serious legal and logistical complications. I doubt (fully ready to be proved wrong) that BMW can deliver different iterations since each bike, in Germany, the USA and about anywhere, must be approved by the feds in it's FINAL sales form. That means not even so much as changing a screw or resourcing a flasher. My **guess** is that BMW will have the "bare bones" bike approved, sell it to you and then you, shopping in their parts catalog "customize" it. They can't sell a bike without a muffler. The other scenario would be that they have gone through the lengthly and expensive approval process for all the possible iterations. In the case of Buell, there were thousands and thousands of iterations so this seems unlikely. The good part is that work or no work the very announcement itself, to quote Motorcycle.com will go far in restoring the passion and excitement that has been missing from BMW street bikes over the last few years. |
