No problem. Next dry season it will probably have a new tire or two on it, which will greatly enhance the experience. In the mean time I'll sell you an M2 if you're looking for a winter project of your own. |

oh, there's one or two things that need to happen to the Ma Deuece this winter, but I'll be glad to help with YOUR projects (I need another M2 not at all, I'd only try to turn it into an S2) |

Rex, you have seen my bike at the American Sport Bike Night. Had a mechanic speak of it as a 1995 with 1996 colors. I have #52 of 200 on the timing cover with matching engine, somehow I even have retained the certificate signed by Erik. VIN 4RM2RT11H7T3000052. Engine number is RT11T000052. Sounds like a match to me. I remember some chalk signatures on the tank skin, maybe an inspection sticker. Got me curious now. I may be willing to sell. Speaking of handling, that bike would do everything asked of it. I really do not know how they raced those beasts; they seem to be rock solid. Come to think of it, I never have gotten the rear end loose. I am offering demo rides also. I also have the next generation XB9R, no EB signatures available. If any one is in the San Francisco Bay Area, look me up, we can go for a spin.

Philly, here's your bone. the first Thunderbolt i ever rode, a demo '95, was pearl yellow. nice bike. i demo'd it twice, actually, and Erik's hook was set. but i had seen a white one, from afar, and Buell's print ads at the time (early '96) had the most GORGEOUS shot of a white one, and i was smitten. i also have, in my garage on the "I love me" wall, a pearl yellow S2 front fender, a memento from the Seattle IMS in January of '97. it has on it the autographs of all the participants of the little party that we (PACBOG) and Buell held that weekend. still like white better, but yellow ain't bad! there. big enough bone??? never knew who took this one, so never used it for our History page. Suspect it's BMCs, so surely they'll not mind the distribution for private use.

There's mine in my profile, but you'll probably want to photoshop out the person sitting on the seat. I always like the one of your's with Mt.Rainier in the background. A classic. Been my wallpaper several times but lost it during the last disc crash and swap. Probably still on the site here someplace. |

Guys, It sounds like a lot of us are looking to track down our certificates and plates for our S2's. Maybe we should have Blake put a section at the top of this page with a "Look for" list. Just have the bike's owner, year and last part of the VIN listed. That way if someone comes across any signature stuff we have a quick way to see if it's on the "want" list. Just thinking out loud...... comments? Brad |

Sounds good to me, but several of the people here seem to have a whole lot more zero's in their VIN's than I have on mine. Will have to get out the VIN decoder and see what's up with that. |

That Yellow S2 photo was part of a article that Cyle World did in 1993.. I believe Sept. issue... It is preproduction with alot of items that were never to show up on the production bike.... Especially the timing cover, right Court?????? |

>>>Especially the timing cover, right Court?????? Inaccurate. What you are thinking of is the medallion on the dash. We had a bit of a midnight raid and the originals were removed and replaced with the HPVS Free Flowing or whatever ones. Not all of the "banned" ones were captured.

Mikej,if you have an early build S-2--like 1994 they had a completely different vin # series than the later ones.My 1995 built (3/95)S-2 has a whole bunch of zeros and a 35 like you said, but my other S-2,built in 1994 (7/94)has a 1B9R----followed by seven digits.(And here I had thought I had an real early bike because of all those zeros--oops.) I asked Erik about this at the start of the All CAL Brag ride in San Diego last year and he said they never expected to build that many S-2's so they ran out of #'s on the first series. |

The number of S2 that were originally planned (in the days when Buell occupied what is now the Woodcrafters building on the corner West of the current factory) was quickly surpassed. The entire Buell strategic plan changed significantly and rapidly during the early months. Remind me to tell you sometime.... |

Jim, Yep, mine be an early one. Probably an early Monday morning one because the only stuff it seems to need is the stuff that wears out. I can't remember what Court had sent me on when it was built (lost in a computer disc crash) but I think it might have been 4-94, or maybe not. Court, If'n I send you the VIN again would you have the time and resources to dig up what you can on it? No rush if you can, and if need be I can even remind you sometime. I'll print out the response this time and file a printout in the service manual. Spidey, Do you still have access to the original purchaser info on these? If so can I send you the VIN as well to look up where it initially went? |

Wow, I feel bad, I have two Signature Series timing cover packages for my very early S-2, build date of 6/94 #0089, it even has billet triple trees that PM made for Buell for the first 100-150 S-2's. by the way my S-2 is For Sale with both timing covers!!! And all take off parts, front and rear stands, soft luggage, signed posters and a picture of Erik sitting on it. |

Jim, I know it's there, I just forgot what it was and haven't checked it lately. I thought Court had some additional build data available though. Carey, Mine has the billet triple trees as well. At least I think they're billet machined. Someone from the east coast said they were anyway. I don't know, it's Monday morning after a long weekend that went from bad sewer pipe issues and a ream job from RotoRooter to a bad morning, argh. But, anyway, mine is past the 150 mark so either mine doesn't have the billet-trees or your qty is off just a bit. Spidey, "ping". Thanks. And, yeah, I have that effect on some people. "> Probably threw you with the black M2 I was on at Ukes on Friday. I'll probably be down to a single Buell before spring. ps, I didn't get a chance to peek under the skin to look for taped on info or inspection sheets or to look for graphitti. edited by mikej on November 17, 2003 |
