Howdy Folks! I've got a line on an S1 Header (2" collector) and wondered if it would fit on my S2 without any fabricating. I saw the Knowledge Vault discussion on the S1 Race Header on an S2, but this is just the standard issue S1 header. Anybody have any experience with this? Thanks, HellBuelly Jay http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hellbuellies/ "The woods are lovely, dark and deep. I think it hits a frame tube, at least that's what I was told when I found an inexpensive S1 race pipe at a dealer's sidewalk clearance sale this summer. Didn't get the header, think it went to an S1 owner. |

It's not the frame thats the issue it's the air cleaner. You would have to install a different air cleaner to use it. Why would you want to change one 2" for another 2" anyways? |

Dan, That's what I was wondering, you beat me to the punch. My question, is there a "race header" available for the S2? What is the difference fron the stocker, a 2 1/2" collector and longer header pipes than stock? Just wondering...

How is the air cleaner a problem with the exhaust headers? |

"Why would you want to change one 2" for another 2" anyways?" Well, when I got my S2 the header was scraped, apparently from going down at some point. I may be able to polish it out, but I thought if I could get an S1 header cheap, and it would fit, it would be easier to polish it off the bike and then install it. Voila! The S1 header rear pipe comes forward then down.. The S2 came down almost straight with just a bit of forward bend to it..... Can you do it.... I had always understood it would not work but I had a chance lately when I found my S2t's pipes had seperated to place a S1 pipe into the exhaust ports of my S2t... The clearance between the rear pipe and aircleaner would be extremely tight(and rubbing could result), but depending on how the pipe was mounted to the muffler at the forward mount I think it could be done... Also checked out a S1wl pipe with similiar results.... Keep in mind that the S2 and S1,M2 or S3 mufflers are different.... The S2 was a straight mount, The others have a 90 degree to the exhaust....Realize there were few complants of exhaust brakage with the S2 design which is not true of the later designs.... The race kit for the early design S1, M2 and S3 is listed in the catalog as fitting the S2 as well.... |

Should mention that I am talking about the early style S1,M2, S3 or S1wl pipe not the later one that forms a T... I have seen this pipe on a S2 but no way a stock aircleaner could work.... The clearance with the aircleaner I mentioned in the other post is so close that it would require that the lip on the back of the carbon fiber aircleaner cover be removed or rotated so that the aircleaner cover could be removed without removing the exhaust pipe..... |

Jim, Thanks tons for the photos! The race header does have longer header pipes. Is it a 2 1/2" collector also? It would be good to know if yours is a S2 specific header. |

Easy way to tell a stock S2 pipe is the welded c section on the front pipe... Yes the S2 is 2 inch the race pipe is 2.5 inch... Jim is that the S2 pipe I bought???? I don't see any damage???? |

My 1995 S2 kept breaking headers up where they attached at the cylinder. So I went and bought the S1 header, I did not have the stock air cleaner on the bike, I had no problems installing it. I never had a problem with breaking any more headers either. http://www.geocities.com/tgroghan/buell.html, see the pictures on my webpage edited by tgroghan on November 21, 2003 |
