She did a nice article. This was funny though. Quote from article "Harley entrée into the sport-bike market and access to its insanely loyal fans, who might cross over to a Harley cruiser once they tire of Buell's adrenaline rush."

She or they(H-D)just do not get it if that's what they think about us as riders.

I have seen quite the other way around all the time Damn Skippy!

Sold all my Harleys (been riding Harleys since 1979) with the money I made off of my FLH I bought a S2T and S1W.... Best choice I ever made.

Caveat: While I have always owned Harleys I have always owned at least one Buell since 1997. It was just a matter of time before all the Harleys were gone.

The people associated with Buell and Buell owners are the best part about Buell ownership.

I thought it was a good article. It has been my opinion that some Harley dealers treat Buell as a stepping stone to a Harley. Nothing wrong with that I guess. After all they are Harley dealerships and that is their business.

It turned out very different. This could be a pivotal time for Buell... The more press they get like this the better. Mr. Buell’s infectious enthusiasm is contagious.

It's funny that Buell is seen by some as a stepping stone to a HD.

My last few bikes went in this order:

'85 1000 Sportster (Great bike if you dont mind wrenching on a monthly basis)
'05 883/1200 Sportster (Great reliable and fun bike.)
'06 Roadking (Hated everything about it.)
'02 M2 Cyclone (Best bike I have ever owned)
'04 GSXR 1000 (Just in initial negotiations on price)

It looks like the need for an "adrenaline rush" is as strong as ever. I can't wait for the 1125R to depreciate in the used market so I can get one.

I really do wish Buell would make another tuber, but even without one, they have my total attention.

Good luck Eric Buell. I hope this economy doesn't put a kink in your plans.

"who might cross over to a Harley cruiser once they tire of Buell's adrenaline rush"

Adrenaline, caffiene, gasoline, & MUD, who would ever tire of that?!?

Tire of adrenaline? Yeah, I'm sure someday I'll grow weary of sex, steaks and booze, too.

"Heading to the airport on the back of a Buell, I'm beginning to understand. The smooth, hour-long journey along the highway--tunes blaring, my leathers flapping in the wind--was exhilarating but strangely relaxing."

1. Flapping? Did she borrow Tubby Tommy's?
2. Relaxing? The rider wasn't going fast enough, then.

Look at the way he has to strain to keep that middle finger down.

She can write that all she wants, cause I have seen quite the other way around all the time.

It's funny I was just thinking this same thing the other day. I've seen plenty of people who have gone from a Buell to a cruiser, but way more going from their cruiser to a Buell, and really never looking back!

Pretty cool article all in all though.

Good article. Trade it on a Harley? When they come out with a Harley that's faster, cooler, and handles better than a Buell. Probably not even then. I will keep my Buell, untill they scape my cold dead hands of it.

I thought the article was nicely done.
It, at least, gave those who don't really know much about Buell and it's internal workings, a little insight into just how personal and tight the culture behind it is.
Culture and enthusiasm as motivators, can be under-rated in today's world. As are recognition and initiative.
I would have to disagree however, that being on a Buell is 'relaxing'. It makes my blood race every time

Great article. Anyone know how to find out if/which print version it's in? Need to send a copy to my folks...

As for stepping stones to HD's...the last few Buells I sold before I had my wreck, I traded HD's on. I'll buy Harleys every day to sell Buells. We even traded a CVO on an XT! LOVE IT!!! : )

Hmmmm....Erik Buell said himself that a sportbike guy will never go for a cruiser. I think EB hit it on the head and I can't agree more. IMO, sportbikers and cruisers ride for very different reasons.

I'm definitely not a cruiser and I'm not sure I'm a sportbiker, either. I loved my Sporty, I loved my Old Wing and I love my Blast. In fact, I've loved every Buell I've tested. My next bike will need to cover serious freeway miles.....Uly XT?

"Buell serves as a testing ground for new ideas."

Has any of the Buell technology ever made it over to Harleys?
