How many of us Buell owners have been denied warranty work on our bikes because we have done Battletrax? My guess is none! |

This thread is getting a lot funnier than the joke page! the mad scientist building bikes in a barn That is very, very funny! Dyna is starting to remind me of Cecil. Clever, sometimes insightful, entertaining, funny posts that are unbelievable at times. And now Blake is checking his inbox for an explanation! Priceless!!! There probably has been an isolated case or two where warranty work has been denied becuase of Battletrax participation. I highly doubt it's an official policy. |

Dyna reminds me of a cross between Al Gore and Fred Sanford. Al has a great imagination like when he thought he created the internet. Fred Sanford for his dramatic and sometimes overstated lines. "Elisabeth, this is the big one. I am coming to see you"... Is winter over yet? we really need to stop typing and start riding again! |

M2me, beats the hell out of reading another topic on rocker box leaks or which exhaust is best to use BTW, you & I both saw that barn. You would have to be mad to work in something like that. And all those Studebakers laying around really tells me a lot about Erik. |

BattleTrax; Blue Groove 1997, Phoenix 1998, Homecoming 2000, don't remember the rest. Race tracks; Firebird, Phoenix International, Laguna Seca, Sears Point, Streets of Willow Springs, Willow Springs, Road America, Blackhawk Farms, don't remember the rest. I had a four year extended warranty and was never denied warranty repairs. Scenario; Buell homecoming 1999 outside the factory; "We'll do all the recalls on you're bike while you're here. Does your bike have any problems that you know of and are you going to the race school at Blackhawk Farms?" Me: "The front brake rotor seems to be warped and yes I'm going to Blackhawk Farms." In about an hour my bike came back out with all recalls up to date and with a new front rotor and pads. Charge for these services? NOTHING. Did Buell know of these BattleTrax and race track escapades? YES. In fact Erik was there when Reg Kittrel flogged my bike around the Streets of Willow Springs track. After Reg was done flogging I gave Erik a ride to the big track. So tell me Dyna. How does this warranty thing work again? |

I do believe that if Buell sponsors a track day and then cancels someone's warranty for participating in said track day then there could be some legal issues they'll have to explain. If BattleTrax does in fact now void all warranty claims then this will have to be added to the waiver everyone has to sign (or is it already mentioned in the waivers, anyone have one handy to check?). I'm not saying anything one way or the other, just asking questions.

I do not know of a vehicle manufacturer that will warranty work on somehting caused during competition . . . . . .It's been said on this thread, but bears repeating, the dealer is the first line of contact for warranty work . . .some are good, some are bad . . .. . the manufacurer is the next step . . . they are pretty much the same, I've found, when it comes to this kinda thing, cuz their lawyers and cost accountant all went to the same schools . . . . . the claim that all warranties are null and void due to the simple fact that your buell turned a wheel on a B'trax course sounds a little suspect . . . . . the lack of back-up data here sounds a little like Nixon's secret plan to end the war to me . . . .. Dyna . . .got facts? please share |

I do not know of a vehicle manufacturer that will warranty work on somehting caused during competition True, but when said dealer & or manufacturer sponsors the event with the intent of showcasing the handling of the machine & hopefully sells a few bikes because of it, then how can they void said warranty? John, I simply cant give all the facts out here on an open forum. A few folks know the truth regarding this. Trust me, I have never bullshitted you before & I am not about to begin now. When I see you then I can explain all. |

I backed off this subject as a considerate gesture towards Court's statement/request but the subject just doesn't seem to get resolved. Not to mention the controversy is attracting an even larger audience and makes the Jerry Springer Show pale in comparison. From my perspective, BattleTrax and Track Days/School are educational tools that develop rider skills and safe riding practices. No more competitive, abusive and perhaps even safer than a BRAG Club ride, either on the local or national level. I can see where Track School and Track Days push the envelope, lead to grass roots club racing and can be considered warranty voiding abuse, but BattleTrax is really stretching the definition of abuse at least for Buell and Harley Davidson products. Now, the SuperMotards I watched participate in BattleTrax this year are a different story. Track only bikes, 2 stoke engines, slicks, full leathers, factory sponsored (some were), tents, trailers, sideways almost the entire time. Yep, that was abuse but there is no way any Buell could come close to that level of performance without serious risk to life and limb, not the power train. If you think so, you are having serious delusions of grandeur and corporate rigor mortis. Concerning the individual that received recall service and some goodwill freebies after admitting to BattleTrax and Track Day participation, that is not an issue here as recalls and warranties are two completely separate and distinct issues. Might be just a matter of semantics, but would really like to know what the official position is concerning BattleTrax. The quest for knowledge is not for consideration or judgment in Dyna's or any other incident but rather to enlighten HD/BMC owners with products still in warranty of the current corporate policy concerning participation in BattleTrax in order for them to make a clear informed decision prior to participating. Now, for the second time, I am requesting that someone with authority kindly step up and post the official position for the benefit of all owners of HD/BMC motorcycles still in warranty. In the event corporate policy will not allow posting of such information, at least direct us to a source where we can read something official and conclusive. Trust me, I have no personal interest in this matter as I neither participate in these activities nor are any of my bikes covered by warranty. However, it would be a positive gesture if the basic issue could be resolved for those that do. |

Blake -- good thing you put in the smiley, or this old line animal would have to come to Tejas and beat ya with a really smelly sock fulla sand! (grumble grumble grumble)(is there a curmudgeon emoticon?) Dyna -- nossir, you havn't bullshitted me before, and I consider you a trustworthy soul -- however, you are not above (none of us are) putting a spin on facts to have them fall slightly closer to your view of reality, yes? (grin) lastly, we may have hit upon the reason so many auto manufacturers no longer sponsor driving schools, track days, and Solo events . . . . it would be a shame if HD decided to follow that example, but it wouldn't be unlooked for . . . I wonder what future B'trax has if Dyna's assertions turn out to be 100% on target . . . it may be that Reg will need to find a new hobby (cuz he can't be making a living at B'Trax) and, for the more litigious readers, that statement about Reg was HUMOR (and similar disclaimers) |

If Buell considers B'Trax a warranty voider... and they kind of sponsor and promote it.. does that mean that all the BRAG events, schools etc. also void it? Is this part of some sort of vast conspiracy to void all our warranties.. forever!! HAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!.. Soon, the lawyers will add using the machine on any paved road with the engine running as a condition to void the warranty!! Yes, I can see it now, you'll have to pay extra for the 'privilage' of starting your new bike (a simple computer chip would be used to talley up the fees of course, charged monthly to your special motorcycle credit account.. with a per minute fee like some cell phones have.. )... Ahhhh.. what a great day for business everywhere... (said with all due sarcasm intended) Later... |

Dyna, I receive your explanation and will honor your request to keep the details to myself. However, I stand behind my original statement now more than ever... quote:Dyna, <Sigh>... Your title of this topic and your statements above clearly imply that any Buell motorcycle that has competed in a Battle Trax competition will be denied warranty coverage. You and I both know that is extremely misleading, and simply untrue. If you ever want your statements to have credibility and respect you need to be honest. You are not being honest.
What you are claiming in this thread is not much better than an outright lie. |

Call Buell customer service & ask them. Its as easy as that. I believe you can find the number right here on this site. Someone else on this site just posted today that his warranty isnt being honored because he changed his pipe. Once again call Buell CS & ask if you have warranty issues & you have added a race ecm, pipe, or competed in a race event..they are considering B-trax a race. |

Please, let's not confuse issues here. This thread is concerning whether or not participation in BattleTrax can/will void a warranty. For the sake of simplicity, let's assume that this is done on a stock motorcycle that qualifies for warranty and the only variable is BattleTrax participation. Modifications to the power train is on a different thread and I believe that issue was resolved. Unfortunately, Most did not care for the answer. However, for clarification, the following was copied directly from Buell's website: WARRANTY: Installation of Buell performance products, and similar products from other manufacturers, except some street-legal offerings installed by authorized Buell dealers, may affect your Buell limited vehicle warranty. See your dealer for more information. |

I believe that this years press release that I read on Buell's website pretty much endorses BattleTrax as an educational skills experience and not warranty voiding racing. Granted there is always a fine line that only the corporation and courts can define, I feel that both Erik Buell's and Paul James' quotes from the press release sum up the activity as both educational and what Buell motorcycles were designed to do. Check out the press release at http://www.buell.com/en_us/inside/news/newsdetail.asp?news_id=451 Also, read the dealer info kit in the hyperlink to the BattleTrax website. The history and marketing purpose of BattleTrax is quite interesting. In closing, I hope that BattleTrax is approved as a wholesome activity for Bueller's to participate in on stock bikes without voiding their warranty. It really is a lot of fun. Not to mention a safe and sane activity. |

On that site they specifically refer to the National Series as an "Event", not a race, not a competition, but as an event. Says nothing about any warranty issues either, and the fact that their race parts specifically state warranty voiding then the exclusion of any warranty consideration due to competing participating in an event should be disputable. But then I'm not a lawyer, and I don't get paid for this stuff. Wish I got paid by the word, but I don't. Almost got fired for words before, but that may or may not be a story for some other time and place. |
