Another great day at Jennings!!!! Intermediate (crash class), on sport tires this time (Metzler M-3)... Good things: I did not crash... I started in the rear of the pack to let the tires warm up and passed about 3-4 people per session... Rough estimate I was turning lap times in the 1:35ish range... I am nailing turn 2 through 10 and 12-14... The bike ran great with no problems! Lessons learned: Run a lower tire pressure. I was running 31-32 psi cold. I reduced to 26 cold and it would end at 30 hot. When passing, get it done and do not break your concentration to look for the edge of the track. Heli-bars suck for track use!!! Observations: There were 3 Italian guys (1 on an R-6 and 2 on brand new MV Agustas). They started in the itermediate class. The R-6 high sided in the first session. One of the guys was bumped back to intermediate and he later lowsided. The other was fast in the straights, but slooow in the corners. I passed him through out the day in various spots on the track and each time he never got back around me. There is a good view of the track from berm one. I'll explain in just a minute.... I had three "off track excursions"; 2 in turn 1 and 1 in turn 14. The first in turn one I was attempting a pass on the outside and the bike waggled and I headed towards the edge... off I went at 90 or so, all the way to the berm and up on top of the berm. The second time I was on an outside pass in 14, I had my front tire about even with his engine case and he went wide leaving me no room on the track. Third time turn one again! I passed out of 14 onto the main straight and out braked the guy into turn one, BUT..... as I left off the brake I was on the gas (dayum heli-bars. Felt like ape-hangers!)... Off I go, up and on top of the berm again!! Things for me to work on: Turn 1 and 11. Getting comfortable passing. Getting a stock upper triple tree. Continue to have fun!! |

New MV Agusta (assume F4) lowsided....ouch, gonna cost him 4 digits to fix that and that's if he can get the parts! Do you still have both XB12s? Have you considered dedicating one for the track? That way you can have your heli-bars on your daily rider and put the stockers on the track bike (one of many advantages.) |

I still have both 12Rs, but I can't bring myself to out the 25th anniversary upper triple tree on the track bike. Anyone know if it is possible to flip the heli-bars upside down? |

The guy on the MV won't have any problem getting parts - remember HD bought them. Just like us Buellers - he will have no problems with the HD parts depts!!! |

Laird, what year is your track bike? I have an 04 upper and would mind another Helibar for when I get a trackbike. I have a Helibar on my bike now and love it. Wanna make a deal? |

Tim, I can't find any on Ebay. Damnut, The track bike is an 04, but I already offered the Heli bar it to Xopti in exchange for his ecmspy magic. |

The guys with the MVs..... There were 4 guys, 2 on the MVs, 1 on a Yamaha R6 and another older weathly looking dude who looked like he may have been the $$ behind the MVs. He did not appear very happy when the 1 MV went down... Of note... They were qucik in the straights, but dayum near parked them in the corners. Each time I was able to pass them I never saw them again. Now.... to work on being smooooooove!! |

I really wish I could go, but 3 heavy weekends in one month would put me so far behind I would never see the light of day again, as well as be living in my camper! Glad you had fun Laird! Cant wait to dice it up with ya! |
